BRUMFIELD, A. Merle, (``Poppy""), 82, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, March 17, 1996, at the home of his daugh ter. Born in Montgomery County on May 16, 1913, he was the son of the late Jacob and Alice Pannell Brumfield. Mr. Brumfield was a retired employee of the Town of Blacksburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Carter Brumfield; two sons, Buddy Brumfield and Billy Brumfield, and a granddaughter, Rhonda Lynn Jones. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Patsy B. and Jerry Jones; a son and daughter-in-law, Merle D. Jr. and Jenny Brumfield, all of Blacksburg; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a special nurse and friend, Julie Crouse; members of Faith Tabernacle Church, and many special friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 1996, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Dale Ketch and the Rev. Kenneth Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the North Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

BOWERS, Virginia Haga, 78, of Bristol, Va., died Saturday, March 16, 1996 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn. She was a lifelong resid ent of Washington Co., Va. and Bristol, Va. She was a member of Scenic Park Baptist Church, Bristol, Va. She was preceded in death by one son, Dale Bowers and two brothers, Herman Haga and Walter Gene Haga. Surviving include her husband, William Roscoe ``Shine"" Bowers; two sons, Guy Bowers and Roger Bowers both of Salem, Va.; two daughters, Sharon B. Rasnake, Salem, Va., Phyllis B. Wood, Wise, Va.; one brother; 10 sisters; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 18, 1996 at 1 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bart Horner officiating. Burial will be at the Forest Hills Memory Gardens of Abingdon, Va. BUSH, Ann Moore, 77, of Roanoke, died Saturday, March 16, 1996 at Community Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Arthur L. Bush Sr.; daughter and son-in-law, Ann B. and Theodore W. Woods, Mechanicsville, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. and Car olee S. Bush, Williamsburg, Va.; son, Arthur L. Bush Jr.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Caroline M. Norman, Roanoke; and brother, James E. Moore, Logan, W.Va. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School, attended Longwood College and was a member of Saint Andrew's Catholic Church. There will be a graveside service at Fair View Cemetery on Tuesday, March 19, 1996 at 2 p.m. The Rev. James M. Fosnot and the Rev. Gene Bush Edmunds will officiate. GOOD, Reuel H., 81, of Rich Creek, passed away Saturday, March 16, 1996, in a Princeton, W.Va., hospital. Born on May 25, 1914, in Swanton, Md., he was the son of the late Rev. William and Minnie Grandstaff Good. Mr. Good was a retired employee of Hoechst-Celanese Corporation, a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Narrows, a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, a member of John Dove Lodge #78 A.F.&A.M. in Peterstown, W.Va., and Lakeland Chapter #74 O.E.S. in Narrows. Mr. Good was preceded in death by two sisters, Dolores Comer and Grace Good. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Jewel Mann Good; two sons, Silas Good and wife Priscilla, and Billy Good and wife Marguerite of Pearisburg; two granddaughters, Lauren and Courtney Good, and two sisters, Nina Laws of Palmetto, Fla., and Vauda Grace of Springfield, W.Va. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, W.Va., with the Rev. Harry Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, with Masonic graveside rites conducted by members of John Dove Lodge #78. HALL, James Ray, 53, of Hardy, passed away Friday, March 15, 1996. Mr. Hall was a member and former president of Woodmen of the World Lodge #362 in Roanoke and was employed with the Morgan Company of Winchester, Va . He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Erby and Lena Dobbins Hall; his brother, Joseph Erby Hall Jr.; sister, Marie Hall Dickerson. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Hart Hall; daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Matthew Ward of Salem, Revs. Susan and Todd Coon, Mary and Mike Kinkead all of Roanoke, Betsy Hall of Hardy; son, James Ray Hall Jr. of Australia; two grandchildren, Jeremy Kinkead and Josh Ward; sister-in-law, Lorraine Hall of Roanoke; numerous nieces and nephews; one loyal dog, Hoss. HOPKINS, Leo Wilcox, 86, of Christiansburg, died Saturday, March 16, 1996 at her home. She was the widow of Thomas Lee Hopkins. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Mildred Stike of Belspring, son, Joseph Grant Hopkins of Christiansburg; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Russell Gordon of Christiansburg and Brazil; one sister, Mattie Houck of West Jefferson, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesd ay at the Gethsemane Baptist Church with Missionary Russell Gordon and Pastor Jerry Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. MACOMBER, Nancy Shelton, 80, of Roanoke, died Sunday, March 17, 1996. She was a lifetime member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church and recently returned to Roanoke after 30 years in Newport News. Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Marcye M. Likens, Roanoke, Fran M. and David Forbes, Newport News; four grandchildren, Kevin Likens and Karen Likens of Roanoke and Blacksburg, Matthew Ross of Florida, Benjamin Forbes of Newport News; one sister, Frances Shelton Carter of Roanoke and formerly of Richmond; two nieces and nephew and their spouses and children, Nancy P. Lewis of Beana, Va., Hazel L. Retherford of Cincinnati, Ohio, Steven M. Lyon III of Franklin, Texas. Memorial services will be at Oakey's South Chapel at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 1996 with the Rev. REED, Relda Rose Wiley, 83, of Pembroke, died Saturday, March 17, 1996. Mrs. Reed was a retired employee of the Hoechst-Celanese Corp. She was born in Lovern, West Virginia on July 30, 1912 and was a daughter of the late Earl S. Wiley and Rhoda Via Wiley. Mrs. Reed was pre ceded in death by a son, Richard C. Reed and her husband, Richard Carvell Reed. She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Bobby Sue and Jack Skeens of Pearisburg, Libby Lafon of Peariburg; one special stepson, Sonny Dunn of Pearisburg; one sister, Earnestine Smith of Princeton, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 1996 in the Givens Funeral Chapel, Pearisburg with the Rev. Jesse Kearns officiating. Interment will be in Birchlawn Burial Park. REYNOLDS, Layman E., 88, of Route 4, Union, W.Va., died Saturday, March 16, 1996, at Greenbrier Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Reynolds was born November 28, 1907, at Dorr, W. Va., the son of the late Joshua Blaine and Lelia Irene Bostic Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds was retired after 37 years as county director for the West Virginia Department of Public Assistance, and was a member of Gap Mills United Methodist Church at Gap Mills, W.Va. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Bonnie Echols, on March 5, 1992. Mr. Reynolds is survived by one niece, Darlene Cathcart of Union, and one nephew, Darrell Echols of Union. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 1996, at the Broyles-McGuire Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Runnion officiating. Burial will follow in the Carmel Cemetery at Gap Mills. RIDGEWAY, Abrom Lewis Jr., (``Bum""), 67, of Rt. 1, Goodview, passed away Saturday, March 16, 1996 at his residence. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Martha R. and Barry E. Gray of Vinton; grandson, Nathan Lane Gray; one brother, William E. Ridgeway and wife, Juanita, Rt. 3, Vinton; one sister, Virginia McAllister, Roanoke; former wife, Annie R. Stevens, Vinton; two nieces, Ann Ridgeway and Judy Levey. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 1996 from the Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Michael Werle officiating. SHELTON, Mildred Cage, 85, of Salem, passed away Saturday, March 16, 1996. She is survived by her husband, Frank C. Shelton; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy R. Shelton of Salem, Sue S. and William D. Minor Jr. of High Point, N.C., and Brenda S. and C. Lewis Foster Jr. of Bluefield; a son, Larry C. Shelton of Salem; grandchildren, Karrie and Kenneth Cobb of Richmond, Kendal Foster of Blacksburg, and two sisters, Lorraine C. Stofle of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jessie Marie Evans of California. WALTON, Dr. William W., 83, of Pulaski and Port Charlotte, Fla., died Friday, March 15, 1996 at his home in Port Charlotte, Fla. He was a graduate of Hampton Sydney College and the Medical College of Virginia. He practiced surgery in Pulaski until his retirement. While providing to the medical needs, he was also an active leader in his community. He was a member and served as a deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, Pulaski. He was a former President and Chief of Surgery of Pulaski Community Hospital. Dr. Walton was President of the Southwest Medical Society, a delegate to the Virginia Medical Society, a Board Member of the Randolph House Home for Adults, and a Board Member of the Bank of Virginia, now Signet Bank. Surviving are his wife, Lucille Walton, Pulaski and Port Charlotte, Fla.; three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Helen Walton, Lexington, Ky., David and Toni Walton, Houston, Texas, Robert and Debbie Walton, Penn.; six grandsons and their wives; one granddaughter. A memorial service will be held 12 noon Saturday, March 23, 1996 at the First Presbyterian Church, Pulaski, Va. with the Rev. Bill DuBose officiating. WHITAKER, Evie Goad, 85, of Christiansburg, died early Sunday, March 17, 1996 in Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Shawsville. She was born October 16, 1910 in Giles County. Evie waited until the Lord called her home and when the golden gates opened, only her earthly body was left behind. She knew that we loved her, but we knew that the Lord was waiting for her. S he left behind one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and John Dickerson of Riner; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Even though she left us to be with the Lord we will dearly miss her. We know she will be waiting for us at the Golden Gates of Heaven. The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home and the family will receive friends there Monday from 6 to 8 p.m

WILLIAMS, Fern Pullen, 80, of Fincastle, left her home on Earth to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 17, 1996. She was a member of the Rainbow Forest Baptist Church family, which she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Williams; her parents, Herman and Martha Pullen; brothers, June and John Pullen, and sisters, Gertrude Hall and Christine Williams. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Manuel (``Jackie"") and Patricia Williams of Roanoke, and Jimmy and Lisa Williams of Fincastle; her daughters and sons-in-law, Frankie and J. D. Bradley of Eagle Rock, Dot and Charlie Sloan, and Susie and Norman Dooley of Fincastle, and Nancy Niday of Roanoke; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Russell Pullen of Virginia Beach, and five sisters, Minnie Bradshaw, Violet Gerhardt and Tillie Quesenberry of Roanoke, and Leona Linkenhoker and Estelle Dudding of Eagle Rock. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 19, 1996, at 1 p.m. at Rainbow Forest Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Via, the Rev. Ken Butterworth and Richard Britt, nephew, officiating. WOOLWINE, Troy E., 50, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, March 16, 1996. He was the proprietor of T-Roy's Restaurant of Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his father, Cosby V. Woolwine. He is survived by his wife, Betty Maxey Woolwine; daughter and son-in-law, Tracey Woolwine and Donald C. Peters II of Warrenton; his mother, Marie Smith Woolwine of Salem; a sister, Lois Inez Cowling of Salem, and two brothers, Bruce Woolwine and Randy Woolw ine of Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 1996, at Lotz Salem Chapel, with interment to follow in Cedar Lawn Burial Park.
