The U.S. Forest Service has activated its campground reservation system and is telling outdoorsmen it's not too early to think about booking a campsite.
``We encourage campers to book reservations before May 1, so they have the best selection and so they can get through easily to the popular reservations system,'' said Lyle Laverty, a forest service spokesman.
The reservation system covers approximately 600 campgrounds in 100 national forests. Last year, more than 111,000 reservations were made through the system. The phone number is 1-800-280-CAMP. The fee for making a reservation is $7.85.
