BASHAM, Agnes Kirby, 79, of Shawsville, p assed away Sunday, March 17, 1996, at Lewis-Gale Hospital. A daughter of the late Joseph Hampton and Maude Richardson Kirby, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Clifford Gilmore Basham; and three brothers, Hubert Wade, Samuel Robert and Everett Hampton Kirby. Mrs. Basham is survived by a devoted daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Allan Poff; one grandson and his wife, Odell and Julie Poff; and a precious great-grandson, Joseph, all of Shawsville; and a loving sister, Edith Kirby Marshall of Newport News. She is also survived by many loving and caring brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as a number of nieces and nephews; and an abundance of friends. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Virgil McHone. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. Friends may call any time Tuesday at Richardson-Horne in Christiansburg, and the family will receive friends there Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

COLEMAN, Raymond B., 93, of Rt. 3, Wytheville, died Monday, March 18, 1996 at his residence. He was born in Carroll County, the son of the late William Giles and Susie Reynolds Coleman. He owned and operated the Lone Pine Service Station for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Virginia Frye Coleman and a son, Raymond C. Coleman. He is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Golda C. Dunford of Max Meadows, Claudine C. and Ray C. Porter of Rt. 1, Max Meadows, Elizabeth C. Cook of Rt. 3, Max Meadows, Eleanor and Homer C. DANIELS, Marie Chesley, 65, of 1100 Black Burns Ct., Chesapeake, died Sunday, March 17, 1996, in a Chesapeake hospital. She was born in Fort Bend, Ind., and was a member of Grace Baptist Temple. She is survived by her husband, Dayton C. Daniels; one daughter, Linda H. Wray of Vinton; three sons, Jerry H. Holland of Blue Ridge, Michael W. Holland of Boones Mill, and Robert C. Holland of Christiansburg; one sister, Irene Chesley of Richmond; one brother, Arthur Chesley of Louisa; 15 grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Pamela Messick of Norfolk; one stepson, Michael Daniels of Chesapeake; six half sisters, Edith, Betty, Dolly, Nelly, Nancy, and Katie; two half brothers, James and Danny. She was predeceased by two daughters, Patricia Yates and Donna M. Holland; and a son, Thomas Holland. FULTON, Zenas Millard Kempton III, 66, of Eagle Rock, died Sunday, March 17, 1996 in a Roanoke hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Jane Burgess Fulton. He was the former President of the Eagle Rock Bank. He is survived by his children, Catherine L. Fulton and Geneva F. Myers of Eagle Rock, Cynthia F. and Edward L. Beckner of Roanoke, William M. and Cindy Fulton of Buchanan, and Ken Fulton, U. S. Army; sister, Elizabeth Greenwood of Georgia; brother, Benjamin Fulton of Maryland; and seven grandchildren. GARRISON, Wilson Walker, 76, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, March 17, 1996. He was a retired Pressroom Superintendent of the Roanoke Times. GRANT, Billy, of Salem, died Sunday, March 17, 1996 in a Salem V.A. hospital. He was a World War II veteran. He fought and was wounded in the Battle of Iwo Jima in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife, Mary Pauline Grant; four daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Jane McGuire, Roanoke, Wanda and Eugene Cash, Blue Ridge, Lois Ann and James R. Bryant, Mary Lou and Thomas Chisom, Salem; a special brother and sister-in -law, Larry and Mildred Grant, Salem; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Bill Boothe, Vinton; four grandchildren, Denise Powers, Marty Cash, Brian Chisom and Todd Chisom; four great-grandchildren, Nikki and Dustin Cash, Alexa and Dylan Powers. GREGORY, Dorothy Neal, 78, of Radford, passed away Monday, March 18, 1996 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home. She was a retired employee of Kenrose. Survivors include her husband, Daniel W. Gregory of Radford; two sons and wives, James Robert and Avanelle Neal, and Billy and DeDe Neal, both of Christiansburg; one daughter and her husband, Carol and Bud Trigg of Radford; three stepdaughters, Carolyn Kanode of Dublin, Cleo Brown of Cashmere, W.Va., and Jane Marie Gregory of Washington, D.C.; three stepsons, Bobby Lee Gregory, Jerry Bennett Gregory of Washington, D.C., and Michael Gregory of Hurt; one brother, Irvin Musselman of Radford; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Wilson of Dublin, and Mrs. Gladys Spicer of Gulfport, Miss.; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was a member of Big Spring Baptist Church and had worked at Leggett's Department Store for 15 years. GRUBB, Frances Agatha 73, of Salem died Monday, March 18, 1996 in Lewis Gale Hospital. She retired after many years with Virginia Easter Seal Society. She was also a long time m ember of Belmont United Methodist Church and had recently became a member of Goodwin Memorial United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Nerlee Grubb Beach. Survivors include one niece, Cyndi Beach Stultz and husband, Dean, of Fincastle; nephews, John C. She was a former resident of Abingdon, where she and her late husband, Tom Henderson operated the Tru-Blu Restaurant. She was a past president of the Virginia State Restaurant Association. HILLMAN, Martha Grier, 97, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, March 15, 1996, at her residence at the Meth-Wick Community. She was born July 14, 1898, in Lincoln Township, Poweshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Eliza Jane (Johnston) Grier. She graduated from Deep River High School and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught school at Humbolt, Iowa. On August 9, 1924, she married Verne R. Hillman at Deep River, Iowa. They lived in Manhattan, Kan. before moving to Blacksburg. Verne's work took them to Charlottesville and Danville, and then to Spartanburg, S.C. From 1954 to 1961 they lived in Bogar West Java, Indonesia. In 1961 they retired back to Blacksburg, and in 1983 they moved to the Meth-Wick Community at Cedar Rapids. Verne died March 2, 1987. Martha was a member of Ingles Chapter No. 96 O.E.S. at Blacksburg, as well as the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Verne; two brothers, Joseph Benton Grier and Harlan Grier; and a sister, Margaret Knupp. Martha is survived by one daughter and her husband, Helen and Bill Shears of Kingsport, Tenn.; one son and his wife, Dr. Charles and Bettye Hillman of Johnson City, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Charles William Shears, Martha Jane Shears Smith, Ian Andrew Shears, James Boyer Hillman, and Nancy Grier Hillman Gasque; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence Lester of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and other relatives and many friends. SPANGLER, Nora Simpkins, 96, of 304 Rowland Street, Narrows, died Monday morning, March 18, 1996, in the Giles Memorial Hospital, Pearisburg. She was born at Stonega on March 19, 1899, and was the daughter of the late Miles Leonard and Margaret Lucretia Durham Sinpkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Dewey Spangler; and a son, Eugene M.. Spangler. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Narrows, and also the Womens Missionary Society of the church. She is survived by a son, C. D. ``Tom'' Spangler of Narrows; a sister, Margaret Elizabeth ``Bet'' Honeycutt, Toccoa, Ga.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Narrows with the Rev. Rick Painter and the Rev. Charles Addington officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Stuart Stephenson; and her son, David Stuart Stephenson. She is survived by her granddaughter, Susan L. Stephenson of Richmond; one grandson, Stuart D. Stephenson of Springfield; two great-grandchildren, Terrence D. Stephenson and Katherine L. WHITAKER, Evie Goad, 85, of Christiansburg, died early Sunday, March 17, 1996 in Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Shawsville. She was born October 16, 1910 in Giles County. Evie waited until the Lord called her home and when the golden gates opened, only her earthly body was left behind. She knew that we loved her, but we knew that the Lord was waiting for her. She left behind one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and John Dickerson of Riner; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Even though she left us to be with the Lord we will dearly miss her. We know she will be waiting for us at the Golden Gates of Heaven. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday from the Richardson-Horne Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Monroe Hedrick with burial in Sunset Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends there Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
