Performance art
Performance artist Keith Hennessey will present ``Box'' in Squires Studio Theatre at Virginia Tech on March 28 at 9 p.m.
``Box'' incorporates dance, song and storytelling about racism and prisons. Hennessey encourages audience involvement and response; he does appear on stage without clothing for a portion of the performance.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
Hennessey will instruct master and open classes March 26 and 27 at Tech. For a class schedule or more information, call 231-6616.
Enola Gay lecture
Barton J. Bernstein, professor of U.S. history at Stanford University, will discuss last year's controversy over the ``Enola Gay'' exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum on March 26 at 5 p.m. at the George C. Marshall Museum in Lexington. Bernstein will lecture on ``Hiroshima and Washington: The A-bomb Decision and the Smithsonian Controversy.'' He was a member of the advisory board to the exhibit.

Tryouts for singers
The Roanoke Chamber Singers, a chorus of 16, is holding auditions. Rehearsals are held Sundays, 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the choir room of First Presbyterian Church, 2101 S. Jefferson St., Roanoke. Singers may call for an audition appointment at 344-3204. They should be prepared to sing a simple solo and a chorus part from ``Messiah'' or other major choral work.
Reading by novelist
Novelist Ann Beattie will read from her works Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall at Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Lynchburg. Beattie is author of five novels and five collections of stories. Her novels include ``Another You,'' ``Picturing Will'' and ``Love Always.''

Playmakers tryouts
Playmakers & Company will hold auditions for Neil Simon's ``The Odd Couple (female version)'' March 25 and 26, 7-9 p.m., at the Playmakers Playhouse, University Mall in Blacksburg. Roles to be cast are for six women and two men.
The play will open June 7 and run three consecutive weekends. Call 382-7890.
Annual meeting
The annual meeting of Historic Fincastle Inc. will be held April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fincastle Baptist Church. Weldon Martin will tell about the history of the church.
Lakeside Players
The new Smith Mountain Lake Lakeside Players will present Neil Simon's ``California Suite May 31 and June 1, 7 and 8 at Dudley Elementary School on Virginia 834 in Franklin County.
Auditions will be held today and Wednesday at the Welcome Center on Virginia 122 at 7 p.m. Roles are available for five men and six women.
Volunteers are needed to design and build scenery, to serve as stage, lighting and sound personnel and to help with tickets, advertising and ushering. Call 576-3401.
Art lectures
The NationsBank Noon Lecture Series, ``American Art Today,'' will present informal 45-minute programs featuring artists and those involved in the art world at noon on the following dates:
March 21, artist Audrey Flack; April 11, Anthony F. Janson, an authority on American painting of the 19th century; and April 25, Katherine Lee, director of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
