Same long-lingering stink in clothing, in hair, in cars, in outdoor stadiums. Same cancer health risks. Same ``please refrain'' objection in public places.
Still, the walls have crumbled. In the once-private palaces of puffery, where there has been single-gender smoke, the fire of equality burns. Holy Winston Churchill. They have made a cigar for women.
Called the Licenciado Expresso, this ``beautifully packaged'' cigar in a dark brown wrapper is being introduced nationally in Miami on Wednesday at an invitation-only celebrity smoker at a South Beach restaurant.
``It's mild and sweet. It's definitely not a strong cigar,'' said Christina Danielle, a Miami Beach cigar fan after trying a six-inch Expresso.
She has been nipping at the world of cigars for three years.
``Not every day or anything. Only when I party.''
Launched by Miami-based Mike's Cigar's, the Licenciado Expresso was created, promoters claim, to satisfy pent-up demand.
``The world of cigar smoking is becoming a more friendly environment for a woman smoker,'' said Oded Ben-Arie, senior vice president of Mike's, which sells 25 million cigars a year from its store in Bay Harbor Island.
