FRANKLIN MOONSHINE STILLS RAIDED 500 GALLONS SEIZED; 2 MEN FACE CHARGES

ABC agents seized eight stills and about 500 gallons of moonshine in a Franklin County barn Tuesday night.

Special Agent J.E. Beheler of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Department said that about 7 p.m., agents raided a barn off Virginia 652 in the Truevine section of the county.

He would not say how authorities knew about the moonshine operation, but said they had been investigating the site before the raid. A pickup truck also was confiscated.

Agents charged Harry T. Cousins, 23, of Callands in Pittsylvania County and Douglas D. Tyler, 41, of Rocky Mount with manufacturing alcohol without a license. Both were released on bond.

Beheler said this was the seventh or eighth moonshine raid in Franklin County this year.
