ARDEN'S NEW FACE MORE THAN JUST PRETTY

Next time you see an ad for Elizabeth Arden Co. makeup, you may want to shield your eyes in the presence of such greatness.

Amber Valletta, Arden's new spokesmodel, is, you see, the perfect woman - if you believe the Arden publicity folks in New York.

They just can't seem to say enough good things about the new spokeswoman for Roanoke-made Arden cosmetics and fragrances. The company called her beauty "ethereal" and "sky-high" and her smile "enchanting."

But lest you think them shallow and beauty-struck, they want you to know that 22-year-old Valletta is more than just another flawless face. She's also: "Oklahoma raised, Paris polished and New York confident to the bone;"

"Well-rounded, intelligent, self-confident and independent with a very modern attitude to life;" and - perhaps most impressive -

"a self-confident, elegant professional woman with good and valid ideas to share, and with sound advice to offer friends."

Or, as Arden spokeswoman Susan Arnot Heaney said, "She's not just a model who's pretty - lights on, nobody's home, y'know?"

Valletta will represent the New York-based company as it attempts to update its "this-is-your-mother's-perfume" image. Her first assignment is an ad campaign for 5th Avenue, the newest Arden fragrance.

No word yet on when Amber's Valid-Ideas-and-Sound-Advice Hotline will be up and running.
