The petroleum companies operating in Montvale have donated 500 smoke detectors to the Montvale Volunteer Fire Department for distribution to local households.
"This donation is our way of showing community support and doing our part to make Montvale-area families safer in their homes," said Donna King, terminal manager for Amoco and spokeswoman for the oil companies in Montvale.
Residents can pick up detectors at the Fire Department between 9 a.m. and noon Saturday and between noon and 3 p.m. Sunday.
Other participants: Amerada Hess, Chevron, Citgo, Colonial Pipeline, Conoco and Star Enterprise.
