I.J. "JERRY" PAYNE III has joined Roanoke-based Richardson-Wayland Electrical Corp. as executive vice president.
Payne began his career in 1966 with Virginia Power, worked as an electrical engineer at Virginia Tech, and more recently, has been in operations and management at New River Electric Co. and Stackhouse Inc.
Richardson-Wayland specializes in the construction of overhead power lines, substations, industrial and commercial wiring, traffic signalization and management and fiber optic systems.

GLORIA J. ZAYECHEK of Roanoke has been appointed a field manager for Welcome Wagon International Inc., based in Trumbull, Conn. Under her direction, Welcome Wagon representatives in Southwest Virginia will call on new residents and other designated households offering community information and gifts from businesses and professionals who sponsor the program.

NANCY W. HACK has joined Valley Bank in Roanoke as vice president in the lending department. Hack has more than 19 years of banking experience, including six years with American Express International Banking Corp. in West Germany and the Netherlands, and most recently, with Signet Bank in Roanoke.

ELLEN D. MAIZE has been named business development director for Spectrum Engineers in Roanoke. Maize joins the firm with eight years of experience as marketing coordinator for Thompson and Litton architects and engineers based in Wise.

MATT BARRON of Optical Cable Corp. has been promoted to sales manager for the Pennsylvania area. He has been with the Roanoke-based company for three years as an inside sales representative.

STEVEN L. NELSON has joined the Roanoke branch of Dean Witter Reynolds Inc. as an account executive. Nelson comes to the company after 17 years in the airline industry.
HEALTH CARE
TOD ROBINSON has been selected national vice president of sales for Diabetes Self Care, a subsidiary of Universal Self Care Inc. Diabetes Self Care, which provides diabetes equipment, supplies and services, has its headquarters in Roanoke.
MANUFACTURING
ANDREW J. STRATTON has been named vice president of McClung Lumber Co. Inc. in Salem. Stratton has been with the company since 1984, previously working as a shop craftsman and estimator. McClung manufactures architectural millwork, mouldings and casework.
DONALD E. LORTON JR. has been appointed controller of Nationwide Homes in Martinsville. He most recently was internal audit manager for General Medical Corp. in Richmond.
NONPROFITS
FRANCIS "FRANK" X. HAYES JR., executive vice president of Virginia Lutheran Homes Inc., has assumed responsibility for the operation of Brandon Oaks, a retirement community sponsored by Virginia Lutheran Homes. He succeeds ROBERT N. BIANCO, who was executive director of Brandon Oaks since it opened in 1993. Hayes has been with Virginia Lutheran Homes since 1980.

ALLEN RIFENDIFER has been named manager of the Grand Piano and Furniture Co.'s downtown store. Rifendifer, who has been with Grand Piano for 10 years, has returned to Roanoke after managing the Lynchburg store for 18 months.
MARY MYERS has been selected head of the design department and named a principal at Barrows, an office furniture distributor in Roanoke. She has been with the company for 4 1/2 years. FAYE SARVER has joined Barrows as administrative manager/marketing. She previously was marketing director for Thor Inc. JENNIFER FREEMAN, formerly with Coldwell Banker's design department, has joined the company as an interior designer. HAROLD MANNING, previously with Joyce Office Products Centers, has joined Barrows as sales manager. DALE ALLEN comes to the company as a sales associate from Litton Office Products and Joyce; PATRICIA IRISH has joined Barrows as a sales associate with 11 years in contract interior design; TODD MANNING, formerly with Virco Manufacturing Co., comes to the company as a sales associate; BOB HARDY joins Barrows as operations manager from Joyce; and JERRY CARTER has been promoted to installation manager.
