synonym for ventriloquist) to win the regional spelling bee

Saturday. Second-place finisher Brandon Winters, a sixth-grader at

Bedford Elementary School, waits behind her. The Roanoke Times,

which sponsored the event, will send Courtney and a chaperone to

Washington, D.C., in May for the national spelling bee. Courtney,

daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Paul Olson, received $100, a Scripps Howard

gift certificate, a CD-ROM library from Virgin Sound, a dictionary

and flowers from the Sheraton Airport Inn. Brandon, son of the Rev.

and Mrs. Michael Winters, received a dictionary. color.
