Health care discussion

BLACKSBURG - Joan Munford, nursing home proprietor and former member of the Virginia House of Delegates, will moderate a panel discussion on long term health care. The program will be held on Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Blacksburg Municipal Building on 300 S. Main Street. The program will be live on Channel 2.

Tax reform meeting

CHRISTIANSBURG - The New River Valley Tax Reform Immediately (TRIM) committee will meet tonight at 7 on the third floor of the Montgomery County Courthouse in Christiansburg. A discussion will be held on how citizens can influence the voting record of Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, who represents the 9th District.

Women's Month events

BLACKSBURG - Women's Month events continue this week.

Judy Mann will speak on "The Difference: Growing Up Female in America," tonight at 7 in the rear auditorium of the Donaldson Brown Conference Center at Virginia Tech.

"Take Back the Night Rally and March" will be held on Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The rally will begin at 7:30 on the Drillfield at Virginia Tech. The march begins at 8. Call Susan Anderson at 231-8041.

The Clothesline Project, an effort to raise awareness of violence against women, will be on display on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the drillfield in front of Burruss Hall, on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in 150 Squires Student Center, and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. outside the Price House Women's Center. Clothesline Project Workshops will be on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The 1996 Women's Month 5K Run and One Mile Run/Walk will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. The event benefits the Women's Resource Center in Radford which provides shelter for battered women and support groups for women,crime victims and witnesses. The registration fee is $15 for age 11 and older. Race day registration will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., in the parking lot at 1800 Kraft Drive. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in the 5K run in all age groups.

Gloria Steinem, founder of Ms. magazine will speak on Wednesday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m., in Colonial Hall, Squires Student Center..

Lectures, displays and workshops will be offered through the first week of April to celebrate Women's Month. Call the Women's Center at 231-7806.
