TECH'S DELRICCO CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

Town police have charged former Virginia Tech linebacker George DelRicco with assault and battery in connection with an early morning fight last week at a College Avenue bar.

DelRicco, 23, and Christopher J. Bishock, 25, of Blacksburg, confronted four people leaving Top of the Stairs at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according to police.

Police said a shouting match between the men erupted into a fight that left one man with two black eyes and a broken nose, and another man with fractures around his eye.

DelRicco, a starting middle linebacker on the Tech football team that won the Sugar Bowl on Dec.31, met his bond and will be arraigned Wednesday in Blacksburg. Bishock was charged with malicious wounding and was being held Monday in the Montgomery County Jail on a $25,000 bond. He will be tried April 11.
