BURNETTE CROWNED MISS NRV

Brandy Marie Burnette, a 19-year-old sophomore at Emory & Henry College, was selected Miss New River Valley 1996 at the pageant's ninth annual event Saturday. Burnette was among nine women participating in the scholarship pageant held at Christiansburg High School.

Courtney Kiehl, 20, was chosen first runner-up and Sara Jayne Quillin, 19, was the second runner-up. Kiehl is a sophomore at Virginia Tech and Quillin is a sophomore at Hollins College.

Virginia Tech senior Karen McNew, last year's Miss New River Valley, crowned Burnette who will represent the valley in the Miss Virginia pageant later this year.
