ALOUF, Edward N., 82, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, March 26, 1996. He was the son of the late Frank and Mary Alouf. He is survived by his wife, Zona Turner Alouf; two brothers, George Alouf, Richardson, Texas, and William Alouf, Roanoke; one sister, Cecelia Ways, New Friendship, Md.; two stepsons, Glen Powers, Roanoke, and Stephen Mabry, Bedford County; and five st epgrandchildren. Ed, a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, was co-owner of Roanoke Cigar Co., and was retired from Grand Piano Co. Visitation will be held at Oakey's Downtown from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, followed by a vigil service at 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be conducted at St. Andrew's Catholic Church on Thursday, March 28, at noon, with the Rev. Steven R. Rule presiding. Burial will be at St. Andrew's Cemetery

BAUMBACH, Nancy Ann Irene, 67, of Leonard, Texas, died Tuesday, March 19, 1996, at Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas, Texas. She was born on July 21, 1928, in Baltimore, Md. Mrs. Baumbach was a long standing member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Blacksburg. Surviving are her husband, George J. Baumbach Jr., Leonard, Texas; three sons and daughters-in-law, William George and Rebecca Baumbach, Wylie, Texas, George Allan and Judy Baumbach, Knightdale, N.C., and Gregory George and Karen Baumbach, San Francisco, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret Ann and Greg Oden, Leonard, Texas, and Nancy Mary and Sherman Hall, Floyd; nine grandchildren, Bethany Ann Oden, Keith Tobin Baumbach, George Grannon Baumbach, John Gregory Oden, Chelsey Dawn Oden, Sherman Lee Hall Jr., Cassandra Rae Oden, Colton Adam Hall, and Mitchell Gregory Hall. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 21, 1996, at 1 p.m. at St. William's Catholic Church, Greenville, Texas. Interment followed in the Leonard Cemetery, Leonard, Texas. She will be dearly missed by her darling husband, George and family.

BOLLING, Conley Y., 80, of 453 Maple Street, Dublin, died Friday, March 22, 1996 at his home. He was born in Eolia, Kentucky on July 5, 1915, and was the son of the late Jesse Bolling and Lavinia Sturgill Bolling. He was a retired employee of the Virginia Employment Commission, having 38 years of service. He was a graduate of Berea College in Berea, Ky. Mr. Bolling was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Dublin Baptist Church, a member of the Dublin Ruritan Club, and he was preceded in death by his wife, June Stanley Bolling, by one son, Shelby W. Bolling, and by one brother, Shelby Bolling. Surviving are three sons, Doyt Y. Bolling, Providence, Utah, William W. Bolling, Lebanon, Va., Larry C. Bolling, Dublin, Va.; one brother, Doyt Herald Bolling, Frankfort, Ky.; five grandchildren, Stephanie A. Bolling, Los Angeles, Calif., Shane Y. BURTON, Ray R., 94, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, March 26, 1996, at his home. He was a Navy Veteran having served during World War II. Mr. Burton was a self-employed general building contractor. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Claudia Burton, daughter, Marie Chocklett and son, Elwood Burton. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. CALDWELL, Hubert Morris, 67, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, March 25, 1996, in a local hospital. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He worked several years at General Electric and retired from the U. S. Postal Service. Mr. Caldwell was a Navy Veteran, having served during World War II and also served in the U. S. Air Force in the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rubye B. Caldwell, Roanoke; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory M. Caldwell and Amanda Caldwell, Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Olivia Dickerson and Molly Caldwell, Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Polly DeHart, Blue Ridge, Lori Brumfield, Lake City, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. FENTON, Thelma Spradlin, 84, of Christiansburg, departed this life on Tuesday, March 26, 1996, at her home. She was a devoted and faithful member of the Alleghany Church of Christ during her lifetime, serving as organist and pianist for many, many years, and was the financial secretary from 1947 to 1955. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Fenton; an infant son; an infant sister; and her parents, William Henry and Bertha Johnson Spradlin. Survivors include a foster daughter and her husband, Nellie H. and Robert Hodge, Blacksburg; a foster grandson and his wife, Kenny and Sally Hodge, Alpharetta, Ga.; a foster granddaughter, Karen Hodge, Alexandria; and two foster great-grandsons, Matthew and Joshua Hodge, Alpharetta, Ga.; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Dorothy Spradlin, Ernest and Kathern Spradlin, all of Roanoke, James and Hazel Spradlin, Danville, Howard and Constance Spradlin, Christiansburg; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Ethel Price, Blacksburg, Lucille Fisher, Radford, Mildred Young, Williamsburg, Bertha and David Miller, Christiansburg. Other survivors and their families include three aunts; twelve nieces; ten nephews; a sister-in-law, Margaret Henry; a brother-in-law, Harry Fenton; and a foster sister-in-law, Dorothy Hodge; also her guardian nursing aides during the past several weeks, Debbie Burleson, Betty Robinson, and Anita Woods, to whom the family appreciate so very much. HARVEY, Carl Theo, 89, of Bedford, died Monday, March 25, 1996 at Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Assurance, West Virginia on May 16, 1906, a son of the late Everette Mason Harvey and Etta Mann Harvey. He was a retired building contractor, a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where he also was a member of the Senior Singers, the Methodist Men, and the R. E. White Sunday School Class. Mr. Harvey was also a fifty-year member of the Masons. He is survived by his wife, Beulah Mann Harvey; a son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Mary Harvey, Montvale; a daughter, Judith A. Hill, Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, Everett M. Harvey, Lynchburg and Harry Harvey, Beckley, W.Va.; a sister, Nellie H. KINGERY, Carl I., 78, of Madison, Ohio, died Monday morning, March 25, 1996, at Lake East Hospital in Painesville, Ohio. Born September 15, 1917, in Roanoke County, Va., to Cora (Turner ) and Charles Thomas Kingery, he worked as a welder for Newport News Shipbuilding. Mr. Kingery was a member of Ghent Brethren Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Cutie, Ollie, and Essie; three brothers, Coy, Lonnie, and Frank. Mr. Kingery is survived by one son, Michael (Karen) Kingery, Madison, Ohio; three grandchildren, Todd (Debbe) Kingery, South Euclid, Ohio, Sheri (Craig) Breedlove, Madison, Ohio, Jeffrey Kingery, Madison, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, C. MINK, Leonard Myers, 79, of Marion, died Monday, March 25, 1996, in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. He was born in Bulls Gap, Tenn. and had lived since 1940 in Marion. He was a salesman for Summers Hardware in Johnson City, Tenn. from 1936 until his retirement in 1978. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Marion, and a faithful chancel choir member for 53 years. He was a well-known artist of this region whose paintings are in private collections throughout the area. He was preceded in death by a son, James R. Mink of Knoxville, Tenn. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Swingle Mink of Marion; two sons, Kenneth A. Mink and wife, Marilyn, of Clarksville, Leonard Myers Mink Jr. and wife, Cathy, of Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Susan Colclough and husband, Ray, of Walland, Tenn.; one daughter-in-law, Penny Henry Mink of Knoxville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. PONTON, Marvin Duel Sr., 77, of Martinsville, died Tuesday, March 26, 1996 at Memorial Hospital, Martinsville-Henry Co. He was born in Nelson Co., Va. on June 18, 1918, a son of the late Jesse Hopkins Ponton and Agnes Evans Ponton. He retired from E. I. DuPont Co. with 30 years service. Mr. Ponton was a WWII veteran, serving in the U. S. Navy Air Force. He was a member of Jonesboro Baptist Church in Nelson Co., Va., a graduate of Fleetwood High School in Nelson Co. and he attended John Hopkins University, University of N.C. and Lynchburg College. He is survived by his wife, Bernice Jefferson Ponton, of the home; daughters, Christine P. Bullock, Elizabeth E. Ponton, both of Martinsville; sons, Marvin Ponton Jr., Roanoke, Jeffrey H. ROBINSON, George B., 48, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 1996, in a local hospital, after a lengthy illness. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps and a former member of the Roanoke County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his father, Fred D. Robinson, and a brother, Fred W. Robinson. Surviving are his wife, Sue Ann Robinson; his mother, Mary Katherleen Robinson; a nephew, David Arron Robinson, all of Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammie and James of Vinton; two grandchildren, Sarah and Richie; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park at 2 p.m. Thursday, with Pastor Robert Alderman and Pastor Albin Crutchfield officiating. SHIELDS, Eunice Bishop, 77, of Roanoke died Monday, March 25, 1996 in a local hospital. She was a member of Ridgewood Baptist Church and worked for many years in their nursery and was also a member of the Golden Circle Sunday School Class. Survivors include her husband, Windle Emmitt Shields; one son, Dennis W. Shields, Roanok e; one daughter, Bonnie S. Cooner and husband, Jerry, Salem; grandchildren, Tracey and Jamie Shields, Brandi, Jeffrey and Morgen Cooner; one brother, Raymond Bishop; two aunts, Essie Smith and Ola Smith, both of Salem. Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 28, 1996 at 3 p.m. at the John M. Oakey and Son Chapel in Salem, with the Rev. Nelson Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park and family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m
SHRADER, James Calvin, 69, of Route 4, Bedford, died Monday, March 25, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. He was born October 17, 1926 in Amherst County, son of the late James William Shrader and Annie Laura Foster Shrader. His wife was the late Mary Drewry Shrader. He was a member of Bedford Baptist Church, American Legion Board-Canady Post #54, and was a retired employee of Rubatex Corp. He is survived by two nephews, Phillip T. Arrington of Johnson City, Tenn. and Francis R. Nance of Virginia Beach; a niece, Danny P. Heilig of Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in Oakwood Cemetery at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Dr. David L. Henderson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Bedford Life Saving Crew.
