The Finance Department is getting a new look in the Pulaski municipal building.
Finance Director Wade Bartlett told Pulaski Town Council members Wednesday that new carpeting should be complete by Saturday.
The next step will be planning for replacing and coordinating office furniture and painting the walls to match the carpeting, all at a cost estimated at between $3,000 and $4,000.
Office files will undergo a review to see how much unnecessary data, now being stored, can be discarded. "It clutters the office, makes it hard to find the information that you do need," Bartlett said.
The state regulates how long some kinds of information must be retained, he said. But much of what is now being kept is useless and is just taking up room. As time goes on, he said, more efficient ways of storing data may be adopted.
By June, Bartlett expects to be rid of the office's old computer system which has been replaced by smaller and more modern units. The town's public works department will build and paint a new wall office and mail room, at a cost of about $750. The accounts payable section will move into that space.
The computer room was once an employee lounge, and Mayor Andy Graham said some employees miss it. Bartlett said that once the old computer equipment is out there should be room to put some furniture and a table in the room with the smaller new computer equipment for employees to use.
He said the reorganization and immediate improvements should provide a more professional and polished image for doing business in the department.
