Twelve girls from three Roanoke Valley schools will participate in Jabberwock 1996 Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Roanoke Civic Center auditorium.
Jabberwock, a musical variety show, is the annual fund-raiser of the Roanoke Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and is celebrating its 10th anniversary with this year's presentation, "Shining Stars."
In addition to the students who will compete for Miss Jabberwock 1996, the show will include: the Rev. Lloyd Stephenson, the show's former director and choreographer, Ujima Dance Group, pianist Willie Smith, vocalists Arthur Deane Jr. and Karen Jackson, and past winners.
Proceeds from the show are used for scholarships. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and children.
This year's contestants are:
* Bethany Collins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Adams. A senior at William Fleming High School, she will be escorted by Fleming senior Breyon Fraction, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James Jefferson.
* Magda Gebremichael, daughter of Hewan Yohannes and Sultan Gebremichael of Uppsala, Sweden. Magda is an exchange student staying with Naomi Epps. A Fleming senior, she will be escorted by Fleming senior Kevin Hancock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Graves.
* Renea Hill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hill. A senior at Patrick Henry High School, she will be escorted by Fleming sophomore Rodney Willis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Willis.
* Ashlee Howard, daughter of Sheila Howard and Willie Howard. A Fleming sophomore, she will be escorted by Fleming sophomore Cecil Graham, son of Debra Graham.
* Tanisha Nash, a Patrick Henry senior and daughter of Francine Nash and Charles Nash. She will be escorted by Patrick Henry junior Dareck Miller, son of Yvonne Miller and Robert Miller.
* Tamekia Robinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Robinson III. The Northside High School junior will be escorted by Northside sophomore Xavier Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rory Lee.
* Tina Saunders, daughter of Ruth Melendez and Jerry Saunders. The Patrick Henry junior will be escorted by Patrick Henry junior Malcolm Woody, son of Wanda Woody.
* Kathlyn Scott, daughter of Lorraine Scott. The Fleming junior will be escorted by Shawn Henry, a Northside junior, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Henry.
* Darsha Stevens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Stevens. The Fleming senior will be escorted by Stephon Hill, a Patrick Henry junior, son of Vera Hill and James Hill.
* Ayanna Thompson, a Fleming junior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Thompson. She will be escorted by Fleming sophomore Demare Gill, son of Stephanie Pullen and Demare Gill.
* Erika Young, Fleming junior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Young. She will be escorted by Fleming junior Gary "Squeeze" Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Simon.
* LaShonda Zachery, Fleming senior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Xavier Clewis. She will be escorted by Michael Williams, a sophomore at William Fleming and son of Annie Williams.
William Smith Jr., Fleming freshman and son of Mr. and Mrs. William Randolph Smith, also will serve as an escort during the performance.
