An undercover investigation by the Giles County Sheriff's Office and state police led to the arrest Wednesday night of two men and the seizure of 12 pounds of marijuana and two vehicles.
Sheriff's Lt. Gary Price said deputies and troopers arrested Michael Brent Estes, 32, of New Castle, and William Lawrence Stormont, 23, of Blacksburg. Each was charged with possession of more than 5 pounds of marijuana with the intent to distribute it.
Price would not comment on possible future arrests stemming from the investigation. He declined to say where the arrest took place in Giles County or the type of vehicles seized. State police narcotics agents and their tactical team joined the Giles Sheriff's Office for the undercover operation, Price said.
The estimated street value of the marijuana is about $20,000, Price said, based on a price of $1,500 to $2,000 a pound.
Both men were being held in the Giles County Jail on $10,000 bonds and were scheduled to appear in Giles County General District Court for arraignment Tuesday.
