ANDERSON, Rev. J. LeRoy, 87, of Roanoke, died Thursday, March 28, 1996, at Camelot Hall Nursing Home. He formerly was pastor of Pinkart Court Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at the Fizer Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Williams Memorial Park. ANDERSON, Margaret Smith, 85, of Culbert Drive, Marion, died Thursday, March 28, 1996, at the Smyth County Community H ospital. Mrs. Anderson was the widow of William Redmond Anderson. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Marion. She worked as a Pink Lady for a number of years at the Smyth County Community Hospital. She had resided in Marion since 1946. Survivors are a son, William R. Anderson Jr., Irving, Texas; a daughter, Marilyn Love Bradley, Battle Creek, Mich.; a brother, Walter Guyton Smith, Dunn, N.C. Also surviving are five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 31, 1996, at 4 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 409 West Main Street, Marion, with the Rev. Michael J. Zumpf and the Rev. Edgar Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in Dunn, N.C. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church. BANE, Sadie Mitchell, 86, of Bland, Va. died Thursday, March 28, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was the daughter of the late James Taylor and Eunice Mustard Mitchell. She was a graduate of Radford University and a member of The Bland Presbyterian Church and a member of The Bland Chapter #41, Order Of The Eastern Star, as well as other community organizations. She taught public school in West Virginia and Bland County and was a Case Worker for The Dept. of Social Services in Giles County and served as Director of Bland County Dept. of Social Services until her retirement in 1979. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Bane. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph F. and Kimberly Bane, Radford; a sister, Thelma Peery Davis, Tazewell; three grandchildren, Andy Bane, Jacob Bane, Shalyn Bane, all of Bedford; a nephew and spouse, Steven Harry and Linda Peery; sister-in-law, Peggy Jester, Huntsville, Ala. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 30, 1996, at 2:00 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Chapel, Bland, Va. with the Pastor June Miller officiating. MYERS, Rev. Dr. John Wynn, of Roanoke, died Thursday, March 28, 1996, at the United Methodist Home of Roanoke. Dr. Myers was a member of the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church for over 60 years, following his distinguished father, the late Rev. Dr. Horwood Prettyman Myers Sr., himself a dynamic and creative leader within the Conference and across the general church. Dr. Myers, a graduate of Randolph-Macon College and a student at the University of Virginia, began his ministry serving with the staff of Druid Hills United Methodist Church while a graduate student in theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. In Virginia, he served subsequent pastoral charges: Bedford Circuit, Cheriton (Eastern Shore), Fairmont-Norview (Norfolk), Farmville, Staunton District, Greene Memorial (Roanoke), Washington Street (Alexandria), Centenary (Richmond), Park Place (Norfolk), Centenary (Portsmouth) and Granbery (Covington) before retiring in 1979. He was one of the youngest superintendents ever to serve in a Bishop's cabinet. While in the Staunton District he successfully launched new programs in church extension which resul ted in many new congregations, while at the same time modernizing the structures of 35 rural parishes. He was for many years a popular preacher, much in demand for evangelistic services in hundreds of churches, attracting large congregations in inner-city pulpits, writing or publishing sermon tracts and appearing on TV and radio in regular schedules. As a leader in the Virginia Conference, he served repeated assignments with the Board of Evangelism, the Board of Missions and Church Extension, the Board of Ministry, and with the Comission on World Service and Finance. He also was president of the Virginia Conference Brotherhood. He represented his conference as delegate to many jurisdictional conferences. In 1955, he was the recipient of the Doctor of Divinity degree at Randolph-Macon College. Widely travelled, both as student and lecturer, Dr. Myers was sent in 1951 by his church in Farmville for extensive studies of all Bible lands, a landmark experience. In 1958, he represented his denomination on an evangelistic mission, working in many conferences, both in Pakistan and the subcontinent of India. Other extensive travels carried him into the mission fields of Europe and the Far East (Japan, Korea, etc.). In community life, he was active in civic clubs, patriotic societies, in both legislative branches in Richmond and Washington, D.C., and at city hall. He was chaplain at prison camps, hospitals and music clubs. He served with the boards of many social agencies. As a Bible student, he was a teacher throughout the community. Dr. Myers is survived by his dear wife of 59 years, Charlotte Scott Myers, originally from Rome, Ga. There are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah Lee Myers and Eric G. Peters Sr. of Lynchburg, and Maude Wynn Myers and John B. Mitchell Sr. of Hot Springs; also six grandchildren, Laura Lee Mitchell McGarry (Thomas, her husband) of Philadelphia, with two children (great-grandchildren), E. Gordon Peters Jr. (Margaret, his wife) of Richmond, Robert Manson Peters (Lisa, his wife) of Germany, J. Blair Mitchell Jr. of Hot Springs, Charlotte Wynn Peters of Richmond and Sarah Letitia Peters, a James Madison University student; also three brothers of distinction, the Rev. Horwood Prettyman Myers Jr. of Waynesville, N.C., William Thomas Myers, M.D., of Fort Worth, Texas, and Dr. Robert Manson Myers of Washington, D.C.; also many cousins and relatives far and near. Funeral services will be held at Greene Memorial United Methodist Church, where was a pastor emeritus, at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 31, with the pastor or other leading clergy participating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Greene Memorial Church or to Randolph-Macon College in Ashland. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday

PORTER, Nellie Harnsberger, 77, of Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Shawsville, formerly of Clifton Forge, died Wednesday evening, March 27, 1996, at the nursing home. She was born in Clifton Forge January 5, 1919, a daughter of the late Charles and Annie Huff Harnsberger. She was a retired bookkeeper with the former Daily Review newspaper. Mrs. Porter was a member of the Clifton Forge Garden Club, Business and Professional Women's Association, and was a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Clifton Forge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles N. Porter. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles N. Jr. and Vivian Porter of Atlanta, Ga. and Andrew (Andy) and Kay Porter of Christiansburg; six grandchildren, Donna, Melanie, John and wife, Hollie, Jill, Brian and Michael. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. John Carrier officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends at Nicely Funeral Home on Saturday two hours prior to service time. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Crease and Zuleika Withers Nelson of Campbell County. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Blacksburg, and for many years a member of its choir and other operating activities. She was a member and past Regent of NDAR, Blacksburg Alleghany Chapter, and a life member of National Hereditary Societies, including Signers of The Declaration of Independence, Washington Family Descendants, Americans of Royal Descendants, Daughters of American Colonists, First Families of Virginia, Daughters of Founders and Patriots, Daughters of The Cincinnati, Colonial Dames XVII Century, The Jamestown Society, Descendants of Colonial Governors, and Magna Carta Dames. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Waller Jr. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas Nelson Sr. and Smiley Waller, Virginia Beach, and James Withers Waller, Blacksburg; two grandchildren, Thomas Nelson Waller Jr. and Mary Allen Waller, both of Richmond.
