AREA WRESTLERS FALL IN NATIONALS

David Anderson of William Byrd and Brian Jones of Franklin County both lost in the first round of the National High School Wrestling Championships held at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

Anderson, who won the Group AA 125-pound individual title, lost by pin to Manuel Sanchez from Arizona, who had a record of 118-29 going into the tournament.

Jones, who captured the Group AAA 152-pound individual title, lost by pin to Jason Richardson from Michigan, who was 193-18.

Both Jones and Anderson will wrestle in the consolation round today.

* The Roanoke Junior Express lost 3-0 to the Pennsylvania Quakers at the Tier III regional hockey tournament held in Hillsborough, N.C.

The Express will play the New Jersey Thunderbirds this morning and then the Florida Panthers later in the day. New Jersey and Pennsylvania represent the Atlantic District. Roanoke and Florida represent the Southeastern District.
