A man wanted by Henrico County police for allegedly stabbing his estranged wife 30 times and kidnapping their 5 1/2-year-old daughter may have stayed at a Roanoke County motel last weekend.
Police say that Michael E. Moore attacked his wife, Lisa, at his home March 22 and drove off with the couple's child, Alexis. Lisa Moore was dropping her daughter off for the weekend. Police said the couple had been separated for 10 months.
Earlier that day, the couple had visited Lisa Moore's attorney to work out arrangements for custody of Alexis, said Jimmy Williams, Lisa Moore's father.
"I think that he never thought that she could force him into divorce," Williams said.
A desk clerk at the Days Inn on Plantation Road said a man fitting Moore's description and a young girl checked in March 23 and checked out about noon the next day.
"I could tell things weren't right," Judy Adams said. The man did not use his real name and said very little, she said.
Adams did not know how the Roanoke County Police Department found out the man was at the motel, and the investigating officers could not be reached for comment Saturday. Moore and his daughter have not been heard from since March22.
Police said that following the attack, Lisa Moore staggered to the home of a neighbor, who called police. She was taken to the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals, where she remains in stable condition.
Michael Moore, who was recently arrested for selling cocaine to a Richmond undercover officer, is thought to be driving a red four-door 1988 Chevrolet Cavalier with a large dent in the rear door on the driver's side. The car has Virginia license plates ZMP-3835, police said.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call local police.
