AMOS, Cora Blanche Simmons, 86, of Hardy, passed away Saturday, March 30, 1996 in a local hospital. She was the widow of Hewie Halston Amos. Surviving are four daughters, Jeanett A. Harrison, Rocky Mount, Mary (``Becky"") Weeks, Roanoke, Betty Jean Hodges, Virginia (``Jenny"") Hodges both of Bassett; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 1, 1996 from the Lotz Vinton Chapel. The Rev. Larry Hollingsworth will officiate. Burial to follow in Crossroads Church Cemetery, Wirtz, Va. BARNETT, Henry Lewis Sr., 71, of Roa noke, died Saturday, March 30, 1996. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke and the Co-Ed Sunday School Class. He was a life member of Mountain Dale Lodge No. 49 I.O.O.F. He was a retired electrician from the Norfolk & Western Railway with 37 years of service and a former employee of Oakey's Vinton Chapel. Surviving are his wife, Janet Cox Barnett; son, Henry L. Barnett Jr., Roanoke; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Norma C. and John L. Bell; brother-in-law, Edgar W. Staley Sr., Roanoke; mother-in-law, Anne R. Cox, Salem; nieces and nephews, Edgar W. Jr. and Ann Staley, Roanoke, Sue and Eddie Johnson, Jacksonville, Fla., Rehnee B. and Don E. Wilson, Waldorf, Md., Kevin and Debbie Bell, Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted from the former sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Third Street, Roanoke, 1 p.m. Monday, April 1, 1996 with the Rev. Charles H. Ward officiating. Burial will be Evergreen Burial Park. The family suggests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, Third Street, Roanoke. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel after 12 noon Sunday.

BECKNER, Vaughan Shelburne, 70, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, March 30, 1996, at his home. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, past president of North Roanoke Rotary Club, and was the owner of Beckner Photography. Surviving are his wife, Minota M. Beckner; sons, Jim Beckner and Art Beckner; daughters and son-in-law, Norma Beckner, and Joy and Stan Bishop, and daughter-in-law, Monika Beckner, all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Brandy Beckner of Sparta, N.C., and Jason Beckner, Derek Beckner and Sarah Bishop of Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Davy Whitmire of Roanoke; brother-in-law, J. D. Sisson of Salem, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 4040 Williamson Road, Roanoke, Va. 24012. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel by the Rev. Kenneth P. Lane Jr., pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. COLEMAN, Carlos Lenburg, 66, of Salem, formerly of Grundy, died Friday, March 29, 1996 after a long illness. He was a Korean War Veteran and an honorary member of the Joyful Servants Sunday School Class of Hollins Road Bpatist Church. Carlos was preceded in death by two beloved children, Larry and Patricia, and also his parents, Garn and Hettie Coleman. Surviving are his children, Rita, Genoa, Gary, and Carla; eight grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Dorothy, Onice, Billy, Pauline, Diana, and Sammy. Faithful to Carlos and his children through life and until Carlos' death is Ora Cantrell, his brother-in-law. Friends will be received at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 1, 1996 at Lotz Salem Chapel. The Rev. Mark Washington will officiate. A special note of thanks to cargivers who made Carlos' life as normal as possible during his 34 years of nursing care. Your selfless efforts, though many times not mentioned, were appreciated by Carlos and his family. God bless you.

DAUGHERTY, Michael Thomas, 22, of Succasunna, N.J., died Friday, March 29, 1996. He was in his 5th year at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va. as an Architectural Student with a minor in Music. He was the beloved son of Patsie and Thomas Daugherty of Succasunna, N.J. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Dan and Matthew; paternal grandmother, Helen E. Daughterty; and maternal grandmother, Betty Dorton both of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; three aunts; four uncles; and many cousins. The service will begin 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home Inc., 96 Main Street, Succasunna, N.J. by a Mass of the Resurrection at St. Therese RC Church, Main St., Succasunna at 10 a.m. Friends may visit the funeral home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Donations may be made in his to the Michael Thomas Daughterty Scholarship Fund, c/o Roxbury High School, 1 Bryant Drive, Succasunna, N.J. 07876.

DOUDIKEN, Thomas J., 78, of Roanoke, died Friday, March 29, 1996, He is survived by a sister, Anna D. Perry of Manassas; a daughter, Theresa Merritt of Manassas; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Carol Doudiken of Roanoke; seven grandchildren, and eight-great-grandchildren. Mr . Doudiken also is survived by his stepchildren and their families, George and Peggy Hensley, Peggy and Sam Overcast and Dorothy Thompson of Tennessee, and Mary Brown of Richmond. MASSEY, Robert E., 70, of Rocky Mount, formerly of Washington, D.C., passed away Thursday, March 28, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Lula Massey. He leaves to rejoice in his memory a devoted and faithful friend, Mary Harris of the home; one sister, Frankie M. Davis of Washington, D.C.; one nephew, Antoine Davis of Washington, D.C.; two nieces; cousins; other relatives, and friends. OGDEN, Jean Lotts, 66, of Radford, died Thursday, March 28, 1996 in Heritage Hall Nursing Home. She was a accomplished musician having served as church organist in several area churches for many years. Surviving are her husband, Howard R. Ogden of Radford; daughter, Denise O. Gravley of Radford; two sons, Dr. Michael W. Ogden of Pfafftown, N.C., William R. (Randy) Ogden, of Radford; sister, Sarah Lotts Gardner of Roanoke; three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 1996 from the Presbyterian Church of Radford with the Rev. Joel Wright officiating. RAMSEY, Elvie Campbell, of Buena Vista, died Friday, March 29, 1996 in the Lewis-Gale Hospital, Salem, Va. Mrs. Ramsey was born in Buena Vista, Va., a daughter of the late William Ramsey and Mary Tyree Ramsey, and was the widow of Richard B. Ramsey. Surviving are two daughters, Betty Gilbert, Buena Vista, Charlotte Carkin, Salem; one son, Marion R. Ramsey, Jacksonville, Fla; two grandchildren, Janet Johnson, Roanoke, Amy Panebianco, Buena Vista, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Chris Johnson and Scotty Panebianco; one great-great-grandson, Derrick Johnson. SONGER, Jerry Wayne, (``Buck""), 40, of Mechanicsburg, died Friday, March 29, 1996 from in injuries of an auto accident. He was born September 25, 1955 at Pearisburg the son of Jack Ward and Margie Neal Songer, Mechanicsburg. He was a welding contractor for Salem Stone, Inc. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Cindy Compton Songer; one daughter, Kristen Leigh Ann Songer and one son, Jack Morgan Songer both of the home; one sister, Ms. Jennie Songer Carroll, Bland; a host of relatives and friends and his two beloved dogs, Jesse and Honey. THOMPSON, Burlie Arnold, 91, of Route 1, Indian Valley, passed away Saturday, March 30, 1996, at Laurel Meadows Home. Born on November 28, 1904, in Floyd County, he was a son of the late Posey Thompson and Susanna Quesenberry Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Thompson of Indian Valley; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Jerry Hill of Indian Valley; a son, Burlie Arnold Thompson Jr. of Danville; a sister, Hazel Fox of Danville; a brother, Cleve Thompson of Salem, and two grandsons, David Wayne Dalton and Christopher Lee Hill. THOMPSON, Sharon Lynch Spangler, 45, of Cleveland, Tenn., and formerly of Salem, Va., died Friday evening at the family residence in Cleveland. Survivors include her husband, Steve Thompson of Cleveland; a daughter, Crystal Spangler of Cleveland and formerly of Salem; a sister and two brother-in-laws, Lotus and Reggie Ferris of Vinton, Va., and Ray Ferree of Salem; special mother-in-law, Edith Gorrell of Salem; several nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Eloise Lynch, and by a sister, Evangeline Ferree.
