Defending champions Miller Baber and Mike O'Keefe combined for a tournament-record 6-under-par 64 on Saturday to take the first-round lead in the third Valley Four-Ball Classic at Hunting Hills Country Club.
Baber and O'Keefe had seven birdies, including five in a row from holes Nos.4-8, and one bogey (No.12) in breaking the event's single-round scoring record of 66 set in 1994 by Don Foster and Hunter Morrissette.
Another Roanoke Country Club duo, brothers Chris and Chip Clemens, are one shot back, despite starting their round with bogeys on the first two holes.
Jack Tuttle and Danny Hopkins are third, at 66. The teams of Ned Baber-Mike Smith, Greg Caldwell-Harry Fridge and Tim Chocklett-Steve Firkins are tied for fourth, at 67. (Scores in Scoreboard. B12)
