CELEBRATIONS - ANNIVERSARIES

Holdren anniversary

Garland E. and Annabelle C. Holdren celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family Saturday, March 23rd at the Sunnybrook Inn. They were united in marriage Saturday, March 30th, 1946 in Roanoke by the Rev. E. D. Poe. She is the former Annabelle Marie Chisom and has been a homemaker most of her married life. Garland served in the Army 29th Division, 116th Infantry, H Company during World War II and participated in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day. He worked for Appalachian Power Co. 37 years before his retirement in 1982. Their children and spouses are Janet and Jim Collins, Conover, N.C., Gerald and Pamela H. Holdren, Roanoke, Jeffrey and Pamela S. Holdren, Vinton. They have five grandchildren.

Siemon anniversary

Ed & Marie Siemon celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Saturday evening, March 30, 1996 with a family dinner at the Hotel Roanoke. The couple, originally from Pittsburgh, Pa., has lived in Roanoke for 31 years. Ed retired from the Coal Traffic Department at Norfolk Southern, and Marie is a housewife. They have 3 children, 3 grandchildren, one stepgranddaughter, and numerous ``grandpets''.

Smith anniversary

Frances and Beverley Smith celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary on March 28, 1996. They were married Mach 28, 1946 in Shawsville, Va., by the Rev. Howard R. Peters.

She is the former Frances Wheeler and is retired from F.W. Woolworth Co. Mr. Smith is a US Army Veteran of World War II and is retired from the VA Medical Center.

A reception was held in their honor on March 23, 1996 at Calvary Memorial Church. It was hosted by their sons and spouses, Roger and Donna of Roanoke, and Larry and Debby of Maryland. They have eight grandchildren, John, Kevin, David and Stacie of Roanoke, and Corey and Christopher of Maryland.

A special thanks to France's sisters, Phyllis Garman and Lois Ferguson for their help with the reception.

Waldron anniversary

Dewey J. and Katherine Waldron celebrated their 50th anniversary on March 29, 1996 at Sunnybrook Inn. It was hosted by their children, Jack, of Salem, Faye Ewers, Judy Huel, and Betty Whittaker, all of Roanoke. The couple was married March 29, 1946 in Roanoke. They are lifelong residents of Roanoke. She's the former Katherine Mitchell. They have eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is retired from the Veterans Administration and she is retired from Roanoke Fashions. They are active members of Washington Heights Grace Brethren Church and the Salem 49ers.
