Ben Amonette of Radford put himself in position to make the U.S. Olympic team in pistol shooting by leading other hopefuls Monday in a qualifying shootout in Atlanta.
Amonette advanced to the final selection match April 15-17 by leading three other free pistol shooters with a 648.6 score. He was followed by Neal Caloia, 640.2; Greg Derr, 631.7; and Patrick Saunders, 629.1.
Now that he's in line to be in the Olympic Games, Amonette is ready to play mind games.
``The main thing I need to do is go home and work on the mental game,'' he said. ``I've got the physical game down. I'm holding the gun fairly well. I need to work on my attitude, to go to world competitions and expect to win.''
Seven members of the Olympic shooting team were chosen Monday for air rifle, women's rifle and trap shooting competitions.
