BOOTHE, Essie Mae, 83, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, March 31, 1996. She was a member of Roanoke Valley Cathedral of Praise Church, and was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah C. and Sarah Young Boothe. Surviving are her sisters, Sarah Patterson, Portsmouth, Annie Briggs, Frances Sink, both of Roanoke; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's North Chapel, Wednesday, April 3, 10 a.m., with the Rev. Harry M. Miller, Jr. and the Rev. R. Theo Arnett officiating. BOOTHE, Virginia Elizabeth, 76, of Fairlawn, died Sunday, March 31, 1996 in Wheatland Hills Retirement Center. Surviving are her husband, R. W. (Pete) Boothe, Fairlawn; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Peggy Boothe, Radford; daughter, Linda Servello, Saco, Maine; one sister, Lydia Smith, Roanoke; one grandchild, Shane Wheeler. BOWLES, Henry Neal Sr., 83, of Route 1, Blue Ridge, passed away Sunday, March 31, 1996, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born July 11, 1912, in West Virginia, a son of the late Lovey Gold Bowles and Annie Lee Frith Bowles. He was a retired carpenter, and was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Churc h. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Barber Bowles; two daughters, Laura May Watson, Richmond, Jewel Ann Beir, Glen Allen; two sons, Carl Michael Bowles, Blue Ridge, Harry Neal Bowles Jr., Richmond; two brothers, Belvie Bowles, Rocky Mount, Daniel Bowles, Roanoke; five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 3, 1996, at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, by Dr. William Vest. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. BOWLING, James G., (``Jimbo''), 45, of Virginia Beach, died Sunday, March 31, 1996, following a long battle with cancer. A talented musician, singer and songwriter, he was a founding member of the Southern rock national recording group ``Snuff'', and more recently the local acoustic group ``Blvd. 58''. Jimbo called Virginia Beach his home and Virginia Beach embraced him. He is survived by his father, Lonnie G. Bowling; and mother, Josephine H. Bowling of Garner, N.C.; brothers, Col. William Bowling of Okinawa and Robert E. Bowling of Rolesville, N.C.; grandmother, Myrtle Wilson Bowling of Raleigh, N.C.; and loving friends in Virginia, North Carolina and Jamaica, who consider him their extended family. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, N.C. The family will be at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner, N.C., (919) 772-8225, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

DAVIS, Annie Mae, 85, of Redwood, passed away Monday, April 1, 1996. Born December 18 , 1910, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Campbell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel T. Davis; a son, Walter Douglas Davis; three brothers, Maynard, Samuel, and Ted Campbell. Surviving are one daughter, Jannette Crook, Redwood; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bobby Davis, Donnie and Phyllis Davis, both of Redwood; one sister, Doris Thurman, Redwood; four brothers, Carlton, Howard, Curtis, and Richard Campbell, all of Redwood; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. HAWKS, Maxwell Dale, 57, of Hillsville, passed away Sunday, March 31, 1996, in Northern Hospital of Surry County. He was born August 30, 1938 in Carroll County, son of the late Coy Donald and Octavia Melecia Quesenberry Hawks. Mack was the last baby delivered by midwife, Orlene Hawks Puckett. He is survived two daughters, Sandra Branscome of Woodlawn, and Lois Linkous of Dublin; two sisters, Delois E. Spellings of Fairfax, and Evelyn Quesenberry of Roanoke; three brothers, Everett G. Hawks, Marvin W. Hawks, Lance C. Hawks, all of Hillsville; three grandchildren, Holly Marshall, Heather Linkous, Trevor Linkous. KNOPP, Maxine Kirby, 74, of Goshen, died Friday, March 29, 1996, at her residence. Mrs. Knopp was born November 17, 1921, in Alderson, W. Va., a daughter of the late William Minor Kirby and Minnie Leach Kirby. She was an Elder and member of the Goshen Presbyterian Church, and was the widow of Walter Leonard Knopp. Surviving are one sister, Anna Louise Kirby, Huntington, W.Va.; one brother, William Richard Kirby, Goshen; one nephew, Wayne Kirby, Goshen. Eades, Roanoke; two nephews and their wives, Raymond G. and Terry Eades, Roanoke, and Richard H. and Dolores Eades, Blue Ridge. She was born October 16, 1909, in Franklin County, a daughter of the late John William Paggans and Fannie Lou English Paggans. Sh e was retired from the Roanoke Weaving Mill. Her husband was the late John Warnick. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Eula Mae and Roy M. Lynch, Goodview; two granddaughters, Donna Gross, Roanoke, Patricia West and her husband, Danny, Roanoke; four grandsons, Frank Williams, Roanoke, Terry Williams, Mark Williams, Gerald Williams, all of Florida; eight great-grandchildren.
