TOWN BUYS ROOM FOR STATION GROWTH

Town Council agreed Tuesday to buy the Lucas property - a small lot between the fire station and new rescue squad building on Depot Street - for $60,000.

The acquisition will provide room for future expansion of the buildings.

Christiansburg will pay half the price this year and the other half next year, with a 7 percent interest rate.

The council reached the unanimous decision after a 15-minute closed-door session.

Also Tuesday, the council agreed to the town's proposed slate of portions of 34 streets that will be paved this year. The streets range from parts of South Franklin and Radford streets to Virginian and Majestic drives.
