COLLEGE NOTES

BRYAN MOSHER of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list at Salem-Teikyo University in Salem, W.Va.

LaSHAWN PATTERSON of Roanoke, is among eight Ferrum College students who spent their spring break in Atlanta, Ga. performing community service at homeless shelters and other community outreach centers.

The group helped with community service activities at Brookhaven Child Development Center, Empty the Shelters, St. Luke's Episcopal Church and Our House in Atlanta and Decatur, Ga.

ELIZABETH L. WEDEMEYER of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, N.C. for the first semester.

JOHN PETER AYLING of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list for the fall 1995 semester at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C.

JEFFREY LOREN BRENEMAN, son of John and Lois Breneman of Roanoke County, was named to the dean's list for fall semester 1995 at Cedarville (Ohio) College. Breneman is a 1993 graduate of Roanoke Valley Christian Schools.

JOY LYNETTE BRENEMAN, son of John and Lois Breneman of Roanoke County, was named to the dean's list for fall semester 1995 at Virginia Tech.

FIELD BRANDON SUZUKI of Roanoke has been named to the dean's list of the engineering school at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

CHAD GRAHAM BURCHINAL, son of Frank and Karen Burchinal of Roanoke, graduated from West Virginia University with a cum laude bachelor of arts degree. He is a 1991 graduate of North Cross School.

AMY L. STARR, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John W. Starr of Roanoke, has been named a College Scholar at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt.

WHITNEY C. HELMS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Helms of Roanoke, was named to the dean's list at Emory College in Atlanta.

ELLEN ERTZ WADE of Roanoke was among the "outstanding women graduates" during the recent 75th anniversary celebration of women at Virginia Tech. She is also featured in a book, "Generations of Women Leaders at Virginia Tech."

THE UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND has named the following Roanoke students to its dean's list: Brian Griffin Lawhorn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy G. Lawhorn; Jason Robert Vermillion, son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert L. Vermillion; and Catherine Bradshaw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Bradshaw Jr.

HOLLINS COLLEGE has named the following Roanoke Valley students to the first semester dean's list: Amy Lindamood, Krista Thomas, Tracy Prillaman, Amy Underwood, Erica Pandapas and Farzana Rahman, all of Roanoke; Cathy Harris, Wanda Lynch, and Heather Snyder, all of Salem; Tracy Broughman, Blue Ridge; Stacy Davis, Buchanan; Gale Fralin, Daleville; and Mary Johnson, Fincastle.

JULIE A. GABERT of Roanoke was among the December graduates from the University of Northern Colorado. She received a master of arts degree.

RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE has named the following Roanoke-area students to its dean's list for the 1995 fall semester: Barbara Ellen Nedrow, Aimee Catherine Beightol, James Anthony Donato, and William Massello IV, all of Roanoke; and Clayton Scott Highberger of Salem.

DEBBIE A. SHOUSE of Roanoke will receive $500 scholarships from Virginia Western Community College. Shouse is a second-year student enrolled in the dental hygiene program.

JOSEPH HERMAN SURKAMER III of Roanoke was named to the dean's list at the University of Kentucky for the 1995 fall semester. Surkamer is a freshman who intends to major in finance.

VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTITUTE has named the following Roanoke Valley students to this dean's list for the fall semester: Mark Q. Emick Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Q. Emick Sr. of Roanoke; Thomas M. Barnhill, son of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Barnhill of Salem; and John P. Henderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Henderson of Vinton.

CHAD E. JAMES of Roanoke has been named to the dean's list for the 1995 fall semester at the Savannah College of Art and Design. James is a freshman majoring in industrial design.

CARRIE DIANE BROWN, daughter of Barry and Mary Brown of Roanoke, and KRISTIN ANN SAUNDERS, daughter of Grady and JoAnn Saunders of Roanoke, have been selected to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." Both attend Longwood College.

RADFORD UNIVERSITY has awarded degrees to the following Roanoke-area students.

Those receiving master of science degrees - Loy L. King, Sarah Silvestrini, and Jeffrey Winstead, all of Roanoke.

TAYLOR L. JONES, son of Liz and Larry Jones of Roanoke, recently won a Gold Key award for an abstract drawing in the 1996 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

Jones is a senior at North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, N.C.

WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY has named the following Roanoke-area students to its dean's list for the 1995 fall semester: Mary Caroline Barritt, Ashley Lauren Berry, David Arthur Kunkle, Angela Dawn McElreath and Kathleen Hathaway Vance.

MARY BETH VENTURA of Roanoke has received a bachelor of arts degree and an area certificate in film studies at Indiana University's Bloomington campus.

JENNIFER RUTH NEVIN, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Marc Nevin, was named to the dean's list at Johns Hopkins University. Nevins is a graduate of Cave Spring High School.

ROANOKE COLLEGE has inducted several Roanoke-area students into the Virginia Delta Chapter of Alphi Chi, a national honor scholarship society. Inductees are: Mariana L. Abraham, Lisa S. Conroy, Nathaniel K. Gay, Amy K. Hollar, Frances R. MacGregor and Sheryl J. McCoy, all of Roanoke; Jennifer L. Mullin and Karen L. Williamson, both of Vinton; Benjamin W. Goodman-Dalton, Salem; Maria A. Cupples, Catawba; and Jennifer F. Hoback, Hollins.

ASHLEY B. MATTHEWS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Matthews of Roanoke, has been elected into Phi Beta Kappa at Washington and Lee University.

Matthews is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

LAUREN LEE WILLSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen L. Willson of Roanoke, has been named co-recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa Sophomore Award at Washington and Lee University.

The award recognizes the sophomore who achieves the highest grade average through the end of the fall term. Willson is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
