Recycle outdated telephone directories
The Clean Valley Council will collect old phone books through Wednesday in recycle bins at the nine Roanoke Valley Kroger stores and the Community Drop Off Center at Cycle Systems on Broadway Street Southwest.
The collection is a cooperative effort of the council, Bell Atlantic, Kroger Co., Waste Management of Virginia-Blue Ridge and Cycle Systems of Roanoke.
Last year the group, with the help of valley elementary school students and parent-teacher associations, collected 53 tons (106,000 pounds) of books. The goal for 1996 is 125,000 pounds.
The reclaimed directories are reused by the paper industry.
