The moon has obscured Comet Hyakutake for the past week. But now the sky is free of moonlight shortly after darkness falls.
To find the comet, according to Sky & Telescope magazine, look toward the west and find an exceptionally bright star - actually, the planet Venus. Make a fist and hold it at arm's length - the comet will be two fist-widths to the right of Venus, toward the north.
It will first appear as a faint fuzzball, but once your eyes get accustomed, you'll be able to see the tail. A pair of binoculars helps, too.
