Manning turned in a dominating pitching performance as he threw a no-hitter in a 6-0 victory over previously unbeaten Northside. Manning struck out 17, walked only four players and didn't allow a ball to be hit out of the infield.
NEAL MUSTERD, Giles
Neal threw a three-hitter and allowed no earned runs while hitting two homers in a 21-2 victory over Galax.
BRIAN YOUNG, Franklin County
The Eagle pitcher won two games. First, he beat William Fleming 15-1 as he threw a two-hitter and struck out eight. Next, Young beat Heritage of the Western District 9-0 on a three-hitter with six strikeouts.
JON RODGERS, Bath County
Jon did it with his bat and arm in a 12-2 victory over James River. He pitched three innings to pick up his second victory as he struck out the first eight hitters he faced. He also homered in the Pioneer District contest.
JASON SMITH AND MARK AKERS, Shawsville
Smith (3-0), a senior left-hander, struck out 14 and didn't walk anyone in a 3-1 victory over Galax. Right-hander Mark Akers (3-) followed that with a four-hit victory over Radford in another performance that had no walks. In 22 combined innings, the two pitchers haven't walked a hitter.
RANDY MARTIN, Glenvar
Randy went 3-for-3, scored three runs and knocked in two as the Highlanders beat James River 13-2 in a Pioneer District game.
SOFTBALL
SONYA HYLTON, Floyd County
Sonya was a key as the Buffaloes went 3-1 in the Salem Invitational. She pitched a 10-0 no-hitter against Christiansburg, turned in 21 errorless innings at shortstop and went 8-for-15 with six steals.
BETTE KAUFMAN, JENNIFER VERMILLION, North Cross
Kaufman and Vermillion both went 3-for-4 and scored five runs in the Raiders' 10-2 victory over Roanoke Catholic.
SOCCER
MOLLIE DRAPER, ANNA BERDING, SARA SHIVERS, JENNY RACE, Roanoke Catholic
In beating Grace Christian School 10-0 and Roanoke Valley Christian 9-0, these four worked together as a unit as Roanoke Catholic denied either opponent a shot at the goal.
SHANE DUDDY, Roanoke Catholic
Duddy scored eight of his team's goals as Roanoke Catholic beat Glenvar 10-0.
CURTIS SHANK, Lord Botetourt
Curtis scored twice in a 3-0 victory over James River, he had three goals and two assists in a 9-3 romp over Roanoke Catholic and then got his second hat trick with three goals in a 3-2 victory over Alleghany. For the week, he had 18 points.
EMILY MANETTA, North Cross
Manetta had 11 saves to keep her team close to Group AAA Cave Spring, which scored the winning goal with two minutes left for a 3-2 victory.
TRACK
EMILY HOLLETT, Northside
In a meet against Salem, Emily won all three jumps - long, high and triple. Her 17-feet, 7-inch effort in the long jump is a new school record.
SHERRI RICKMAN, Cave Spring
Rickman is only a freshman, but her varsity career is off to a fast start. In the Knights' 95-23 dual meet victory over Franklin County, Rickman won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, anchored the winning 400-meter relay team and also won the long and high jumps.

MANDY HARLESS, Radford
Mandy came from behind in both sets to win 6-3 and 7-5 as Radford stopped Shawsville 8-1.
