WOOLDRIDGE PROMOTED BY NS CORP.

WILLIAM G. WOOLDRIDGE has been elected vice president-law for Norfolk Southern Corp., succeeding JAMES C. BISHOP JR., who was named executive vice president-law in January.

While attending law school in 1968, Wooldridge was a clerk in the law department of the company's predecessor, Norfolk and Western Railway Co. in Roanoke. He was named assistant general attorney in 1973, general solicitor in 1986, and general counsel-corporate in 1989.

BANKING

DANNY TURNER has been named vice president of administrative services for MainStreet BankGroup Inc. based in Martinsville. Turner joined the company in 1972. Also, NANCY HARLESS, who joined MainStreet affiliate Piedmont Trust Bank in 1964, has been appointed deposit operations manager; ERMA RADFORD, who came to Piedmont in 1961, has been named deposit operations manager; and SALLY MERKLE, who has been with the bank group since 1994, has been elected payroll/benefits manager.

KATHY SCHALAU has been named an account officer in the sales finance department of First Citizens Bank in Roanoke.

HEALTH CARE

ROBERT E. LEE JR. has joined Jerry Kirk & Associates, a Roanoke consulting firm for health care providers. He comes to the position from Roanoke Memorial Hospitals, where he was vice president. His duties will include providing practice management services, developing applications for certificates of need, and obtaining certification for rural health clinics.

INSURANCE

THOMAS W. CRAWFORD has been named president and chief executive officer of Prudential Property and Casualty Co. based in Newark, N.J. Crawford, formerly of Roanoke, was president and chief executive officer of Southern Heritage Insurance Co. in Atlanta, a company he founded in 1984.

LAW

J. ALEXANDER BOONE has joined The Center for Employment Law, a Roanoke law firm. While in law school at the University of Virginia, Boone was a clerk with the U.S. Attorney's Office for Western Virginia; and after graduation, he worked for several months with now closed Par-vin, Wilson & Barnett, a law firm with offices in Roanoke and Richmond.

RONALD M. AYERS has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Ayers, who has practiced law in Roanoke for 26 years, is a partner in the firm of Johnson, Ayers & Matthews.

MANUFACTURING

JEFFREY E. WILLOUGHBY has joined the A.L. Philpott Manufacturing Center in Martinsville as specialist for pollution prevention. He will be based at Central Virginia Community College in Lynchburg, providing pollution and environmental expertise to area manufacturers.

Mod-U-Kraf Homes Inc., Rocky Mount manufacturer of modular homes, apartments and commercial buildings, has elected officers and directors for 1996: DALE H. POWELL, president and chairman of the board; EDWIN J. CAMPBELL, vice president and corporate secretary; M. JAN OLIVER, treasurer; and JEFFREY L. BOUDREAUX, controller. In addition to Powell and Campbell, board members include W. CURTIS CARTER, retired from Stuart Lumber Corp.; J. DILLARD POWELL, Rocky Mount Supply Co.; MARY L. FITTS, real estate investor in Boones Mill; and BOBBIE L. OLIVER of Rocky Mount.

RETAIL

GEORGE DIXON has been named manager of Muskegon, Mich.-based Quality Farm & Fleet's store in Marion. Dixon has been with Quality for five years, most recently as new store operations manager in Martinsville. Before joining Quality, Dixon was employed with Lansing Automakers Credit Union.

TRAVEL AND TOURISM

JOE GRANT has joined the Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau as convention sales manager. Grant comes to the bureau after retiring from USAir Group.
