WYTHEVILLE - Wythe County officials will hold a budget workshop at 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss a $2 million shortfall in the proposed $34 million budget for 1996-97.
Areas where money needs to be made up include $100,000 for site work on a new Learning Resource Center building planned at Wytheville Community College, $670,000 for schools, $500,000 for social services and $88,000 for recreation.
The board's budget committee is made up of Supervisors Tom DuPuis and Bucky Sharitz. At last week's board meeting, DuPuis said the shortfall could be made up by taking money from reserves, raising taxes, making budget cuts or a combination of those actions. Sharitz said he is against dipping into reserves.
