Democratic caucuses: First round of mass meetings to select delegates who will decide nominations for Senate and House of Representatives. April 15:Democratic caucuses: Final round of mass meetings to elect delegates who will decide nominations for Senate and House of Representatives. In Western Virginia, Democrats in Bedford, Bedford County, Franklin County, Giles County, Pulaski County, Roanoke County and Salem meet. April 15:Roanoke City Council holds public hearing on School Board candidates at 7 p.m. in council chambers. For more information, call city clerk at 981-2541.

May 7: ELECTION DAY: Municipal elections in Roanoke, Salem, Christiansburg, Blacksburg, Radford, Pulaski, Dublin, Bedford and other cities and towns in Virginia. Radford also elects School Board.

May 11: 5th District Democrats, 6th District Democrats, 9th District Democrats and 9th District Republicans hold conventions to nominate congressional candidates.

May 18: 5th District Republicans and 6th District Republicans hold conventions to pick congressional candidates.

June 7-8: Virginia Democrats hold state convention in Hampton to pick U.S. Senate candidate.

June 11: ELECTION DAY: Virginia Republicans hold primary to pick U.S. Senate candidate.

Aug. 12-16: Republican national convention in San Diego.

Aug. 26-29: Democratic national convention in Chicago.

Oct. 11: Deadline to register to vote if not already on the books.

Nov. 5: ELECTION DAY: Voting for president, U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
