A $4.5 million Amerisuites hotel proposed for Valley View Mall helped boost the value of Roanoke Valley building permits last month to nearly $20.5 million. Roanoke's $9.5 million in new construction also included a six-building apartment complex on Spring Tree Street, $1.4 million, and a day-care center for TAP, $720,000.

Salem's $2.5 million included $432,600 for an addition at Lewis-Gale Hospital. Roanoke County reported $8.4 million, including 64 single-family homes.
