BALL, Mildred Pogue, 92, of Roanoke, died Monday, April 8, 1996. She was the widow of Dr. Lawrence C. Ball, a member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church and the Thursday Morning Music Club. She was a graduate of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and was a Registered Nurse. Surviving are her cousin, Ruth Sckrechendus, Victor, N.Y.; nieces, Mrs. Louis Schroff, Frankfurt, Ky., Ms. Elizabeth Ball, Oak Ridge, Tenn., Mrs. W. H. Jones, Harlan, Ky. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 1:30 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Don Roberts. Burial will be at Evergreen Burial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel

BOONE, Raymond Earl, 81, of Dublin, died Sunday, April 7, 1996, in Wheatland Hills Retirement Center in Radford. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena L. Boone. Mr. Boone was the former President of Boone & Walsh Construction Co. He was also a membe r of the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, J. K. (Pete) and Sandra Boone, Dublin; three brothers, Melvin Boone, Kissimmee, Fla., Garland Boone, Florence, S.C., Ray Boone, Burbank, Calif.; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church with Dr. William H. Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park. BOOTH, Harold Frederick 72, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, April 7, 1996. He was born to Denver C. and Hester Ellen Booth. Mr. Booth was a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired business man, owner of C. B. Halsey Company. He served in the army during WW II as a 1st Sgt., and was awarded the purple heart and the bronze star. He is survived by his wife, Helen Lemon Booth; a brother, Ralph Elton Booth, Roanoke; sister, Evelyn Sink, Hardy; also many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 1996, with the Rev. John D. Cochran officiating. Interment with military honors in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. CHATTING, Noel E., 73, of Roanoke, died Monday, April 8, 1996, in a Salem hospital. He was a proud member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #491, and an Army veteran of World War II, having served in Germany, where he received the Purple Heart. Surviving are his wife, Reva Virginia Chatting; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Marsha Chatting, Rodger and Doris Chatting; and one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Alan Sowder; three brothers, Floyd Chatting, Billy Chatting, and Wally Gandi (Chatting); four sisters, Zelphia Payer, Verda Mullin, June Kabot, and Mildred Kelley; six grandsons; and one granddaughter. EVANS, Evelyn Josephine, 88, of St. Albans, W.Va., died Monday, April 8, 1996. She was a lifelong resident of Salem, residing at 85 McDivit Dr. Mrs. Evans was retired from the League of Older Americans and is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Margueritte B. and Arthur S. Ward, Winfield, W.Va. GARDNER, Evelyn Herndon, 85, of Hardy, died Su nday, April 7, 1996. Mrs. Gardner was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, and Roanoke Council of Garden Clubs. She was preceded in death by her sons, Richard Davis Gardner and Warren Herndon Gardner, and her husband, James Oakley Gardner Jr. Surviving are two grandsons, James Michael Gardner and wife, Susan, and Scott Elliott Gardner and wife, Carol, all of Salem; three great-grandchildren, Warren Michael Gardner, Ashley Scott Gardner, and Regan Elizabeth Gardner; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Gardner, Salem; two brothers, John Wilcox Herndon and Sidney Dumas Herndon; three sisters, Margaret H. GREEN, Nathan, 47, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 6, 1996. He was a member of the Maple Street Baptist Church, where he served on the Male Chorus, Usher Board, and was a former bus driver. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Genora J. Green, Roanoke; one daughter, Terri M. Green, Roanoke; mother, Mrs. Dorothy H. Moore and stepfather, Mr. Howard Moore, Lynchburg; three sisters, Mrs. Eloise Bolton, Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Frances (Raymond) Leonard, Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Regina (William) Joyner, Goldsboro, N.C.; two brothers, George (LaDonna) Lovejoy, Lynchburg, Clifton (Meg) Lovejoy, Montgomery, Ala.; a host of other relatives and friends, including a devoted friend, Walter Elam, Roanoke. HOSTETTER, Della Mae, 79, of Lexington, died Sunday, April 7, 1996, at her home. Mrs. Hostetter was born January 20, 1917, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late John Thomas Hostetter and Mary Catherine Smith Hostetter. She was a member of the Spring Valley A.R.P. Church and retired from Burlington Industries with over 30 years service. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Don Hostetter, Lexington, Tootsie and Clarence Patterson, Lexington; one son and daughter-in-law, Mickey and Angie Hostetter, Lexington; five brothers, Tom Hostetter, Wilson Hostetter, Curtis Hostetter, Richard Hostetter, Reese Hostetter, all of Lexington; a sister, Nancy Southers, Lexington; eight grandchildren, Debbie Patterson, Tony Patterson, Dennis Patterson, Travis Patterson, Susie Higgins, Clifford Hostetter, Laura Hostetter, and Scottie Hostetter; five great-grandchildren; a special race car driver, Bill Elliott. HUNNICUTT, Susie, 39, of Powhatan, died Thursday, April 4, 1996. She is survived by her mother, Nell M. Hunnicutt; her brothers, Fred T. Hunnicutt and Robert L. Hunnicutt; her fiance, Edward M. Henderson. Ms. Hunnicutt has twelve years service as a paralegal secretary for the Martin and McDaniel Law Firm. HUTCHESON, Phillip Alan, 44, of Roanoke, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 1996, in the Lewis-Gale Hospital. He was the son of Josephine and the late William Hutcheson. He is survived by his wife, Darleen Freeman Hutcheson; one daughter, Tara A. Hutcheson; his mother, Josephine Wright Hutcheson; two sisters, Pamela Hutcheson of Roanoke, and Karen Hutcheson Thistle of Blacksburg; one brother, William Gerald Hutcheson of Sylvania, Ohio; mother-in-law, Naomi Freeman; four sisters-in-law, Coretta Freeman of Buchanan, Angela Freeman Hilton of Roanoke, Gwendolyn Freeman Ghee of Salem, and Sandra Fowler Hutcheson of Sylvania, Ohio; four brothers-in-law, Edgar Freeman of Buchanan , Kermit Hilton of Roanoke, Elton Ghee of Salem, and Gene Thistle of Blacksburg; two nephews, William Phillip Hutcheson of Sylvania, Ohio, Brian Hilton of Roanoke; one niece, Shannon Hutcheson of Sylvania, Ohio; six aunts, six uncles; and many other relatives and friends. KOONTZ, Louise Wynne, 87, of Roanoke, died Monday, April 8, 1996. She was the widow of Lawrence L. (``Skinny'') Koontz, was a long time m ember of Second Presbyterian Church, and was a charter member of Hidden Valley Country Club. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Skeezix Coles, Smith Mountain Lake, Mollie Sue and Pete Spady, Battery Park, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence L. Koontz, Jr., Justice of the Supreme Court of Va., and Eberle Smith, Salem; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Margaret W. Hanger, Richmond; nieces, Stella Bjostads, Greensboro, N.C., Beverly Hundley, Richmond, Susan Koontz, Dogue, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 12 noon Wednesday by Dr. A. Taylor Todd. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park. McCLUNG, Dr. William Otis, 76, of 4520 Newbern Heights Drive, Pulaski, died Easter Sunday, April 7, 1996, in the North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born on June 13, 1919, in Harrelson County, Ga., and he was the son of the late Samuel Elmer McClung and Willie Mae Davis McClung. Dr. McClung attended West Georgia Junior College and obtained a B.A. Degree from Mercer University. In 1954, Dr. McClung received a Ph.D. Degree in Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Carrollton, Ga. on December 9, 1939. After serving several village churches in rural Georgia, he served larger churches in Indiana and Kentucky. Since 1951, Dr. McClung served as senior pastor at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Richmond, Farmville Baptist Church, Farmville, Marion Baptist Church, Marion, and Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, Madison Heights. Since retiring in 1981, he has held eight revivals and has been interim pastor of eleven churches. Dr. McClung was very involved in Virginia Baptist life as a member of the Virginia Baptist Board for 15 years, as Assistant to the Chaplain, Lynchburg General Hospital, as Professor of College Extension, University of Richmond, and as Chaplain of Southside Community Hospital, Farmville. Among many other community activities, he was a member of Rotary International, Chamber of Commerce, and Executive Director of New Horizons Hospice, Farmville. At the time of his death, Dr. McClung was Minister of Visitation at the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski, and Interim Pastor of Angels' Rest Baptist Church, Pearisburg. Surviving are his wife, Jane Golden McClung, Pulaski; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald G. and Linda T. McClung, Bridgewater, N.J.; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Claxton Mills, Thomasville, Ga., Charlotte and H. Alexander Holmes, Raleigh, N.C., Jane and R. Glennwood Lookabill, Draper, Melody and Jack L. McGlothlin, Pulaski; sisters, Laura Lee, Cedartown, Ga., Marie Buford, Harrelson County, Ga., Derelle Johnson, Douglasville, Ga., Willie Bishop, Harrelson County, Ga., Lorene Coalson, Dallas, Ga., Ann Johnson, Harrelson County, Ga.; brother, Charlie Ray McClung, Forest; 15 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, 1996, at 11 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski, with Rev. Nick Habel, Rev. Norman Wilhoit and Dr. John Jones officiating. NIECE, Dorothy Bane, 78, of Buena Vista, died Monday, April 8, 1996 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. She was born May 9, 1917 in Rockbridge County, daughter of the late David Bane and Nora Hostetter Bane. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Niece. Mrs. Niece attended the Lexington Baptist Church. Surviving are a siste r and brother-in-law, Clara and Ollie Floyd, Buena Vista; a sister, Rachel Agnor of Florida; a special niece and nephew, Wilmalee and Charles Mitchell, Buena Vista. WALLER, Jacob Eden Sr., 69, of Route 5, Marion, died Easter Sunday, April 7 1996, at the VA Medical Center in Salem. He was born in Salisbury, N.C. on March 6, 1927, a son of the late Robert L. Waller and Bessie Odell Waller. Mr. Waller, a Navy veteran of World War II, was a retired manufacturers representative, member and past Master of Masonic Lodge #31 in Marion. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jacob E. Waller Jr. and Kristi DeCourcy of Catawba, Jeffrey and Letha Waller of Marion; one sister and brother-in-law, Martha Lou and Joe Waller of Homestead, Fla.; one granddaughter, Sarah Waller of Marion; two nieces, Susan Buxton of Miami, Fla. and Pam Phillips of Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 1996, at Rowan Memorial Gardens, Salisbury, N.C., with the Rev. Steve Cathcart officiating. WIGGLESWORT H, John Woodruff Sr., 78, of Route 2, Goode, died Sunday, April 7, 1996, in Oakwood Manor. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on August 1, 1917, a son of the late Harry Hirst Wigglesworth and Sarah McAlester Wigglesworth. He retired from the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission on 1975, was Past Master of Mt. Hermon Lodge No. 179 A.F. & A.M. of Hyattsville, Md., a charter member of the Bellevue Seniors in Goode, and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Constance Kephart Wigglesworth; a son, John W. ``Woody'' Wigglesworth Jr., Goode; a daughter and son-in-law, Judith Lynn and John B. Corbin, Olney, Md.; two grandsons, John Edward Wigglesworth, Melbourne, Fla., and Whitney Allen Wigglesworth, Lynchburg; a great-grandson, Corey Allen Wigglesworth, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, April 10, 1996, at 2 p.m. in Virginia Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert W. Gochenour officiating.
