FASHION-SHOW LUNCHEON THURSDAY IN CHILHOWIE

Marlis Ryssel-Flynn of Pulaski will present a program of fashions at a noon luncheon Thursday at The Art Place, where a collection of women's fashions from 1900 to 1960 are on display through April 30.

Ryssel-Flynn, who owns the Upstairs/Downstairs shop in downtown Pulaski, is a native of Stuttgart, Germany, and came to this country 23 years ago. She paints furniture with decorations of vines and flowers, makes floral designs, and creates Victorian-style pieces using tapestries. She also sells jewelry, collectibles, antique china and other antiques.

She will be assisted by Claudia Mullins, who owns the Misty Mountain Magic shop above the Upstairs/Downstairs boutique. Mullins does basketry, chair seat weaving and painting. The two will model fashions of the 1920s.

The fashion display includes dresses, coats, shoes, accessories and several Gody prints of 19th-century fashions. A collection of spring hats of the 1950s and 1960s will be for sale. Hours are 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 12 noon Fridays, with group appointments available by calling 646-8498 or 646-3282. The Art Place is at 131 E. Main St. in Chilhowie.
