Author to lecture at Tech

BLACKSBURG - David Hackett Fischer, author of historical books, will speak on "George Washington and the Crossing of the Delaware" today at 4 p.m. in 100 McBryde Hall at Virginia Tech.

Lunchtime concert

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech Trumpet Society will present a concert at noon today in the Memorial Chapel as part of the Chapel's Bach's Lunch series.

The program is free and open to the public.

Play at Tech

BLACKSBURG - Student playwright David Norris Jr.'s play "Aquilia" will be performed by Theater Arts-University Theatre Workshop tonight at 8 and 9 in Room 204 of the Performing Arts Building at Virginia Tech.

Admission is free.

Music ensemble at RU

RADFORD - Members of the "Hodie" vocal ensemble from Namur, Belgium will perform tonight at 8 in Radford University's Preston Auditorium.

Formed in 1988, the ensemble is made up of 18 women, including engineers, language teachers, professors, pharmacists and nurses.

RU poet will read

RADFORD - Rita Sizemore Riddle, poet and director of graduate studies in English at Radford University, will read selections from her book "Aluminum Balloons" tonight at 7:30 in RU's Flossie Martin Art Gallery. A book signing and reception will follow the free public reading.

Riddle, a native of Kentucky, draws on her experiences as an Appalachian. Her book is about "how women deal with domestic trauma - violence, abuse and isolation. It's about their fragility and strength."
