The three men indicted last week on murder charges in Montgomery County in connection with the Dec. 5 shooting death of a Virginia Tech student were indicted by a Giles County grand jury Tuesday on robbery and firearms charges.
Benjamin Lee Lilly, 27, and his brother Mark Anthony Lilly, 20, both of Riner, and Gary Wayne Barker, 19, of Merrimac Road in Montgomery County, were each indicted on two counts of robbery and two counts of use of a firearm to commit robbery.
Alexander V. DeFilippis was abducted in Blacksburg about 7:15 p.m. Dec. 5. Investigators believe he was then forced into his car and driven several miles to the Whitethorne community of Montgomery County, where he was shot and killed. By 8:30 p.m., over in Giles County, the H&L Mini-Mart in Eggleston and M&W Market in Pembroke were robbed. Tuesday's indictments stem from those robberies.
The two Lilly brothers and Barker also face charges in connection with a Floyd County burglary the day before the killing.
