GRAY SETS RECORD IN FERRUM WIN

Former William Byrd standout Shannon Gray set a single-game school record by scoring five runs and Pat Daly cracked three doubles to tie a single-game school record as Ferrum toppled Guilford 19-9 Wednesday in a college baseball game in Ferrum.

Richard Price also set what was believed to be a single-game school record by getting hit by pitches four times.

Gray finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and Daly was 4-for-5 with three RBI and four runs scored. Ryan Brittle knocked in four runs for the Panthers (22-4-1), who are ranked 10th in Division III.

Ben Brown was the winner in relief, going three innings and giving up three runs. Guilford is 16-17.

In other news:

Michael Henderson's two-out single in the eighth inning broke a tie and helped Old Dominion defeat Virginia Tech 8-5 in a baseball game in Norfolk.

The Hokies (19-15) scored all their runs in the sixth inning. Matt Griswald belted a two-run homer with Chad Foutz aboard, and Josh Herman, David Fitt and Eric Shiflett had run-producing hits.

Jim Druckenmiller completed 13 of 15 passes for 162 yards and four touchdowns and All-American defensive end Cornell Brown recorded three sacks to highlight Virginia Tech's football scrimmage.

Brown finished with four solo tackles and two assists. Druckenmiller's touchdown tosses went to four different receivers.

He threw a 17-yarder to Marcus Gildersleeve, a nine-yard toss to Angelo Harrison, a 29-yarder to Shawn Scales and a 37-yard strike to Willie McGirt. Gildersleeve later caught a 23-yard pass from Al Clark and finished with five receptions for 70 yards.

Virginia Tech lost a doubleheader 3-2 and 3-0 to Marshall in non-conference softball in Blacksburg.

In the first game, Jennie Kallio (4-11) took the loss, giving up just one earned run on eight hits for the Hokies (13-21).

Missy Frost drove in all three runs for Marshall (31-13).

In the second game, Frost fired a one-hitter while walking two and striking out four. Sarah Hudson got Tech's only hit.

Becky Vassar Chauvin has been selected the new women's tennis coach and Ben Sohrabi has been named the new women's soccer coach at Radford University.

Chauvin, a Radford graduate, will take over for Dr.Tom Hondras, who stepped down this fall with a 16-year record of 248-143.

Sohrabi, a Maryville College graduate, has been women's soccer coach at Lambuth (Tenn.) University the past two seasons, compiling a 19-16-2 record.

Senior Billy Metz scored three goals and had one assist as Roanoke downed Randolph-Macon 11-5 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's lacrosse game in Salem. Roanoke (7-2 overall, 3-0 ODAC) got two goals each from Paul Baly, Jeff Jones and J.D.Gattie.

Tina Beahan scored eight goals as Guilford routed Hollins 22-6 in an ODAC women's lacrosse game in Greensboro, N.C. Hollins (2-6, 1-4) was led by Caroline McGehee and Jane Meacci, who scored two goals each.
