BEING BACK IN BUSINESS IN NEW CASTLE IS LIKE HOME

Lawrence and Lila Caldwell have proven the adage "You can't go home again" wrong.

They are back home in a place where they were familiar figures for 35 years - Lawrence's Bestway Market on Main Street.

They reopened the store March 20 after a seven-year absence. ``It's wonderful to be back,'' Lawrence Caldwell said.

"This is just like a second honeymoon for us," said Caldwell. "We're walking high. All of our old friends are coming in to see us, and its good to see them all again."

The Caldwells got into the food-store business in 1954 when they bought a store in New Castle and renamed it Lawrence's Bestway.

At age 70, in 1989, Caldwell said he thought it was time to retire.

After the building that housed the store was put up for sale after the owner went out of business in August 1995, the Caldwells decided it was time to come out of retirement.

They bought the building and remodeled it, refinishing the floors and repainting. "I plan on keeping the store as long as I live," Lawrence Caldwell said.

The store is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
