CHRISTIANSBURG - The deadline for registration for the Miss and Master New River Valley Talent Competition is Saturday. The contest is Friday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren, South Franklin Street, Christiansburg. The contest is sponsored by Dancer's Dream.

Musical auditions
BLACKSBURG - Auditions for Summer Musical Enterprise's production of "South Pacific" continue today from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. All auditions are at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Christiansburg.
Twenty-five speaking roles require 60 to 70 actors, singers and dancers, ages 5 to 75. "South Pacific" will run from August 21 through September 1 in Blacksburg and Radford.

Job search program
DUBLIN - Tom Owen, NRCC Job Placement Coordinator, will show how to connect career needs with job opportunities in a program on Saturday at 10 a.m., in 206 Edward Hall on the Dublin campus.
The program includes resume assistance, job listings and access to the Internet.
The event is sponsored by the NRCC Alumni Association.

Candlelight vigil
PEARISBURG - The Giles County Multi-Discipline Team for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect will sponsor a candlelight vigil in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Giles County Courthouse.

Greeks sponsor run
BLACKSBURG - "Run for Reading," a fun run and 5K race will be sponsored by the Greek councils of Virginia Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Montgomery County Friends of the Library.
Registration forms can be obtained at the Blacksburg and Christiansburg libraries and at 319 Squires Student Center. Prior to Sunday, registration fees are $5 for the run and $10 for the 5K race. On the day of the race, register at the Duck Pond Gazebo. Fees are $10 for the run and $15 for the 5K race.

Creativity lecture
BLACKSBURG - Lee Worley, teacher, artist, coach and musician, will present a talk and workshop on creativity. The workshop, "Creativity and Communication in the Group Dynamic," is Sunday at 3 p.m., at Blacksburg Recreation Center's Senior Center. Admission is free.
As an art teacher and wrestling coach, Worley's creativity is constantly challenged. He also plays in the group Visible Shivers.
The talk and workshop are sponsored by the Blacksburg Regional Art Association.
