ALTIZER, Etta Rhea Blevins, 44, of Rural Retreat, died Thursday, April 11, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was born in Rural Retreat, the daughter of the late Evelyn Bailey Blevins and James B. Blevins. Mrs. Altizer was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church in Rural Retreat and a former member of the Rural Retreat Emergency Services. She is loved and survived by her husband, Bob Altizer; two daughters, Teresa Pruitt of Blacksburg, Tammie Perkins of Christiansburg; one sister, Jane Bentley of Chilhowie; one brother, David R. Blevins of Rural Retreat; Four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and several cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 1996, at the Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Hoyle, the Rev. Gale Baker, the Rev. Ray Haskett, and the Rev. Curry Burgess officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Rural Retreat Emergency Services. Friends may call after 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Sharon Baptist Church, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, or they may call at the residence at any time. BALCHUNAS, Anthony John, 79, of Fincastle, passed away Thursday, April 11, 1996. He was born on December 17, 1916, in Elizabeth, N.J., was a retired tool and die engineer, and a member of the Masonic Lodge. BARKER, Elsie Clark, 82, of Elliston, died Wednesday, April 10, 1996, at her home. The daughter of the late Minnie and Jesse Clark, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Elbert H. CRESSWELL, Ruth, 79, of Skegness, England, died Wednesday, April 10, 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra M. Yeargan, of Vinton; and granddaughters, Julia and Sharon Yeargan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 16, 1996 in England.

DARBY-DuBOIS, Alice I., 91, of 120 0 E. Grant, Macomb, Ill., died at 4:34 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 1996, at McDonough District Hospital. Born June 3, 1904, in Marionville, Mo. to Vernon Kingsley and Maude Wadlow Darby, she married the Rev. Paul Julian DuBois on January 28, 1924, in Ozark Beach, Mo. He died June 26, 1992. Two sisters also preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Lois Roberts of Canton, Ill., and Ellen Ruth Peterson of Salem; one brother, Clarence Vernon Darby of Independence, Kan.; two sisters, Margaret Geiger of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Ada Maude Smith of Richland, Mich.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Decatur, Ill., and was a charter member of United Methodist Women. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Cremation has been accorded. Services will be at Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton, Ill. at a later date. Arrangements are by Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, Ill. EUBANK, Gladys Hambrick, 77, of Vinton, passed away Thursday, April 11, 1996. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, J. FISHER, Robert Melvin, 68, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 10, 1996. He was a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a board member at Parkway House of Prayer and was employed by Valley Metro for 37 years. Mr. Fisher was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Lydia Mae Fisher, two brothers, Benjamin and Owen Fisher. Mr. Fisher is survived by his wife of 42 years, Christine Hurt Fisher. He is also survived by one son; three daughters; and their spouses, Sharon Ruth Giles, Stephen Lee Fisher and wife, Joyce, Roberta Fisher Fike and husband Bill, Rachel Renee Ridout and husband, Steve; in addition he is survived by three brothers and three sisters, Frances Young, Warren Fisher, Jimmie Fisher, Ralph Fisher, Evelyn Meador and Agnes McGlothlin; four grandchildren, Brian and Andrea McDaniel, Chad and Nicholas Fike. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 1996 at Parkway House of Prayer, with Pastor Steve Parker officiating. Mr. Fisher may be viewed at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at Oyler's Chapel Cemetery. HARRISON, Norman William, 90, of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 11, 1996. Mr. Harrison was a retired Section man from Norfolk & Western Railway, and was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Mounts Harrison. LEONARD, Blanche Ross, 70, of Atkins, died Thursday, April 11, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was a beloved wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, A.G. Leonard of Atkins; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Herschel McDivitt of Oil City, Pa., Joyce and Don Shelton of Cloverdale, and Betty and Skip Mitchell of Roanoke; four sisters, Hazel Sexton of Marion, Helen Hemp of Fredrick, Md., Ruth Sapp of Comers Rock and Carol Jenkins of Culpepper; three brothers, Ralph Ross of Troutdale, Dean Ross of Lenoir, N.C. and Gene Ross of Saltville; and seven grandchildren. PACETTI, Augusta Craighead, 82, of Floyd, died Thursday, April 11, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. Surviving are three daughters and husbands, Aileen P. Greenwood, Floyd, Wanda and Dietz Crowe, Jane and Reggie Richardson, and Josephine and James Carico, all of Bent Mountain; three sons and wives, Fred and Alice Pacetti, Oliver L. Pacetti, all of Salem, Willard and Sharon Pacetti, Bent Mountain; 31 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis Craighead, David Craighead, both of Roanoke, and five sisters, Gertrude Spencer of North Carolina, Ardella Holt, Callaway, Claire Pruitt and Trixie Poff, both of Salem and Stella Freeman, Roanoke. SPRAKER, Walter Thomas, (``W. T.''), 65, of Little River, S.C., formerly of Salem, Va., died Monday, April 1, 1996. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at Bethel Baptist Church in Salem.

STRICKLAND, Peggy Jane Dehart, 60, of Tampa, Fla., found peace, Friday, March 29, 1996. Born in Radford, Va., she moved to Tampa in 1958. Mrs. Strickland w as an active member of Beta Sigma Phi International and had received their Order of the Rose and Silver Circle Awards. Most recently, she served as advisor to the Florida Omega Omega #13471 Chapter. She is survived by her husband, John Strickland; daughter, Kristy Leigh Strickland, of Tampa; sister, Rachel Phillips and her husband, Ulysses, of Lake City, Tenn.; sister, Ruth Eastridge and her husband Bob, of Tampa; brother, James E. Dehart and his wife Sue, of Radford, Va.; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 13, 1996 at 2:00 p.m. in the West View Cemetery, with the Rev. WHITLOCK, David Seldon, 91, of Roanoke passed away Tuesday, April 9, 1996 at a local hospital. He was the son of the late Seldon and Rachael Whitlock. David was born in Campbell County, Va. on June 22, 1904, and educated at Christiansburg, Va. He worked at Hotel Roanoke and later retired from the N&W Railway Co. He was a member of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, a former member of Big Brothers Association, League of Older Americans, the NAACP, the YMCA, and the Masons. He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey Long Whitlock, and a son, David Jr. Surviving are his son, Edgar and daughter-in-law, Margaret; seven grandchildren, Shirley (Roy) Gunn, Roanoke, Linda Whitlock, Alexandria, Wanda Carter, Tampa, Fla., Stanley Whitlock, Brooklyn, N.Y., Marlene (Willie) Peterson, Tampa, Fla., Quay Whitlock, New York., N.Y. and Kendal Whitlock, Atlanta, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Shanta, Tamika, Trey, Michael; one great-grandchildren, Arnisha; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
