Firefighters needed less than 10 minutes to put out a blaze at a Northwest Roanoke home Friday night. No one was injured.
District Fire Chief John Johnson said a fire started in the basement of 1820 Franwill Ave. shortly after 9:30 p.m. and smoke filtered throughout the rest of the two-story home.
Although the fire is under investigation, Johnson said it appeared to have been sparked by the house's electrical system. The investigation will be turned over to the Roanoke fire marshal's office.
Resident Rose Arrington said she was walking up the stairs to the second floor when she noticed the smoke. She, her husband and two children then left the house.
The fire was contained to the basement.
