Full communion possible

After 2000, Moravians and most Lutherans in America may share full communion if both denominations approve reports that will be submitted to their national meetings in the next two years. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America news service reports that five years of dialogue by representatives of the two churches has removed most obstacles. "Full communion" does not mean a merger but mutual recognition of sacraments and ministries, the sharing of clergy and a commitment to common evangelism. ELCA Lutherans, with many parishes in Western Virginia, have 11,000 U.S. congregations. Moravians, most in North Carolina, have 150 churches with many missionaries abroad.
