Bureau staff changes
CHRISTIANSBURG - The Roanoke Times' New River Bureau has announced several staff changes.
Madelyn Rosenberg, the bureau's assistant editor for the past 21/2 years, will serve as editor of the features department in the newspaper's Roanoke newsroom for six months. After this assignment, she will become a full-time feature writer for the paper.
Rosenberg is a Blacksburg native who covered Pulaski County, the police and courts beat, and higher education for The Roanoke Times before becoming the bureau's assistant editor.
Brian Kelley, who covered Montgomery County government for the bureau, replaces Rosenberg as assistant editor, supervising the daily news coverage in the New River Valley.
Kathy Loan, who has covered the police and courts beat for the bureau for five years, is on a six-month assignment as the bureau's Montgomery County government reporter.
Lisa K. Garcia, who has worked as a reporter with a Nebraska newspaper and as an editorial assistant with The Roanoke Times, will cover the police and courts beat for six months.
Mall sale complete
BLACKSBURG - The sale of University Mall and surrounding property to Raleigh, N.C.-based Roanoke Valley Associates was recently completed for more than $5 million, according to court records.
Roanoke Valley Associates, which also owns malls in Roanoke, bought the property at a public auction in October. The mall and surrounding land, which includes the sites of First Virginia Bank and Hardee's restaurant, had been owned by Blacksburg Associates, L.P.
The property had been in a trust but with a provision that it would be sold if it defaulted on its payments.
Since October, University Mall has been managed by Kane Realty, which is part of Roanoke Valley Associates. Roanoke Valley Associates also recently bought Towne Square Shopping Center in Roanoke.
New bank V.P.
FLOYD - James A. Chapman has joined the Bank of Floyd as vice president and chief financial officer.
Chapman, a certified public accountant, was controller with Charter Federal Savings Bank in Bristol for five years.
He has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Clinch Valley College of the University of Virginia.
He and his wife are from the Saltville/Richlands area and now live in Floyd.
New accommodations
RADFORD - St. Albans Psychiatric Hospital is offering overnight accommodations to patients who do not need 24-hour care.
The hospital's Hospitality Unit is designed for adults and adolescents who are enrolled in the Partial Hospitalization Program, in which patients participate in therapeutic activities during the day only. The unit offers an alternative to motels for patients who travel to the hospital from throughout Southwest Virginia, northeast Tennessee and southern West Virginia.
