A woman died and two people were seriously injured when their boat crashed into a barge early Saturday, police said.
The 14-foot pleasure craft hit the front of the 35-foot barge, which was on a dredge site near the Great Bridge locks, Chesapeake police spokeswoman Elizabeth Jones said.
Bertha Virginia Tant, 37, of Virginia Beach died at the scene, Jones said.
Her husband, Barry W. Tant, 36, and another man, Patrick Cassidy, 41, of Chesapeake, were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Jones said.
Tant and Cassidy both were in intensive care at the hospital Saturday afternoon.
The accident is under investigation. - Associated Press
