NELSON, Luella Davidson, Mrs., 80, formerly of Wytheville, died Friday, April 12, 1996 in Cedars Nursing Home in Charlottesville, Va. She was the daughter of the late Grover C. and Clara Sharitz Davidson of Wytheville. She was retired from the Sperry Marine Co. of Charlottesville and for the past few years had made her home with her daughter and son-in law, Dr. and Mrs. Gaylord S. Williams of Charlottesville. She is also survived by two grandsons, Jack Williams of Leesburg, Va. and Chris Williams of Glassboro, N.J.; and a great grand son, Kevin Williams of Leesburg. Private graveside services will be held for the remains at a later date in Wytheville, Va

NUTTER, Jesse R., 74, of Roanoke, died Friday, April 12, 1996. He was a member of College Lutheran Church and was an Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a member of Taylor Lodge #23 AF & AM. Surviving is his wife, Cordie S. Nutter; a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Darell Semones, Vinton; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Alice Nutter, Blacksburg, Gary and Sue Nutter, Vinton; sisters, Geneveve Burns, Rupert, W.Va., Wanda Galloway, New Mexico; brothers, John Nutter, Quinwood, W.Va., Bob Nutter, Dunlow, W.Va., Roy Nutter, Cleveland, Ohio, J.C. Nutter, Wiloughby Heights, Ohio; grandchildren, Lisa Cassell and husband, Chuck, Lori Moran and husband, Mickey, Tammy Nutter, Holly Nutter, Julie Nutter, Jodie Nutter, Tanya Nutter. Services will be held at College Lutheran Church, 1 p.m. Monday, April 15, 1996. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Masonic rites by Taylor Lodge #23 AF & AM. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel after 2 p.m. Sunday where the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or College Lutheran Church.

PAYNE, Carlton McDaniel, Sr., (``Bob""), of Bedford, died Friday, April 12, 1996, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at the Oakmulgee Baptist Church in Bedford County. Interment will follow in the family cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bedford Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements by Bedford Funeral Home.

PERSINGER, Oscar Allen, (``Jack""), 85, of Bedford, passed away Friday, April 12, 1996 in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born October 17, 1910 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Allen Ryder Persinger and Sally Elizabeth Stull Persinger. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Field Persinger. He was a retired certified public accountant, a retired lieutenant in the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, graduate of Randolph-Macon College and LaSalle Ext. University of Accounting; was a member of the Bedford Moose Lodge #1897, the Kiwanis Club, the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accounting, and was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church. He was a longtime resident of Richlands and was a member of the Richlands United Methodist Church. He is survived by his present wife, Marie Brokaw Persinger; two sons, Allen Persinger, Bedford; Thomas Persinger, Roanoke; four daughters, Betty P. Scott, Burlington, N.C., Patricia Murray, Raleigh, N.C., Margaret Mullins, Richlands, Lisa Persinger, Bedford; seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 15, 1996 from the Main Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. Glen Langston. Friends may call after noon on Sunday and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford, and other times at the residence of Lisa Persinger, Route 7, Pony Acres Rd., Bedford. Mr. Persinger will be taken to the Loving Funeral Home, Covington, on Monday, April 15, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 1996 from the Benjamin Persinger Memoiral United Methodist Chapel, Covington by the Rev. Kermit Meadows. Interment will follow in the Persinger Memorial Chapel Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Persinger Memorial United Methodist Church.

PETERS, Hallie Spangler, 85, of Fincastle, died Friday, April 12, 1996. She was the widow of Roy Daniel Peters and she was a member of the Fincastle Baptist Church and the Diner's Club, Fincastle. She is survived by her son, William E. Peters, Fincastle; sister, Ruth Brown, Roanoke; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be he ld Monday, April 15, 1996 at 1 p.m. in the Rader Troutville Chapel with the Rev. Mitchell C. Luckie officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery. REYNOLDS, Linwood, (``Buck""), 68, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, April 13, 1996. He retired from Spector Freight Lines and Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Minnie E. Reynolds; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Billy Mitchell, an d Sandra and Sammie Mutter; sons and daughters-in-law, Barton and Leigh Reynolds, Kevin and Lynne Reynolds, and Michael and Marianne Reynolds, all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Scott, Chris, Stephanie, Ashlee, Lauren, Katelynn, Sydney, Jordan and Linwood (``Hunter""); a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Tilman Mahone of Bedford; sister-in-law, Connie Reynolds of Lynchburg; a number of nieces, nephews, devoted friends, and his devoted cat, Lolly. SHEETS, Leota Long, 87, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, April 13, 1996. Mrs. Sheets was retired from Kenrose Manufacturing Company, and was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Meredith Sheets. Surviving are her daughter, Emogene (``Jean"") S. Rowe of Roanoke; her son and daughter-in-law, Harold Roger and Ethel Frances (``Fran"") Sheets of Roanoke; her grandchildren, Phil Rowe, Leslie Owens, Lori Clark and Donna Tyree, all of Roanoke, and Dawn Tolley of Appomattox; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ora Russell and her husband Andy, and Stella Freeman, all of Roanoke, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's North Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, with the Rev. Kelly Dampeer officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. WITT, Ronald L., 84, of Salem, died Saturday, April 13, 1996, at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys T. Witt and son, James S. Witt. He is survived by eight sons and two daughters, Robert E. Witt, London, Ohio, Ronald F. Witt, Radford, Richard E. Witt, Goodview, Cecil L. Witt, Roanoke, Gerald C., Morton A., David W., and William J. Witt, all of Salem, Margaret W. Chaffin, Riner, Elizabeth W. Weaver, Roanoke; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 15, 1996, at Salem Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Paul W. Braisted and Pastor Orlando Gonzalaz officiating. WRIGHT, James Mayo, (``Possum""), 79, of Buena Vista, died Friday, April 12, 1996, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He was born November 8, 1916, in Buena Vista, the son of the late Forest M. and Nettie Montgomery Wright. He was a retired carpenter and a U. S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in the South Pacific. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Scott Wright; three sons, Stephen D. Wright of Buena Vista, Stanley M. Wright of Glasgow and William E. Shaw of Buena Vista; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nannie Huffman and Helen Bare of Buena Vista, and eight brothers, Ben Wright, Elwood Wright, Albert Wright, Marshall Wright and Claude Wright of Buena Vista, Hayden Wright of Lynchburg, David Wright of Glasgow and Harvey Wright of Natural Bridge Station. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Lomax Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Dean Staton. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
