Mitchell anniversary
Virginia Poff and Thomas Kelly Mitchell, Jr. celebrated their 60th anniversary on April 4, 1996. The celebration was held in their home in Elliston, hosted by Kenneth, Ann, Brenda, their grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were married April 4,1936, and have lived in Ellison for 53 years. She's the former Virginia Poff. They have one son, Kenneth E. Mitchell of Roanoke; two daughters, Iris Ann Phillips of Salem, and Brenda M. Marks of Shawsville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is retired from the U.S. Postal Service, and she is retired from Green Hill Meat Packing.
Rees anniversary
Harris and Jeanette Rees of Blacksburg celebrated their golden wedding anniversary April 13, 1996. They were married on April 13, 1946, in W. Hempstead, Long Island, N. Y. In honor of the occasion, a celebration was held at their home hosted by their children. A memory book with letters and pictures from many friends over the years allowed them to be in attendance as well.
Harris participated in the Normandy invasion of World War II, and he and Jeanette later served as missionaries in Nigeria, West Africa. The couple also resided in New York and Atlanta while working for the Bell System, and in Kingsport and Kissimmee during retirement. They have three sons, Loren, Linton, and Timothy; two daughters-in-law, Rebecca and Grace; and three grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew and April Joy. Florence DeTemple, a 94 year old aunt, is also a special family member.

Revere anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. William A. Revere celebrated their 50th anniversary on April 13, 1996. The celebration was held at Friendship Manor Hall and was hosted by their children. Mrs. Revere is the former Dorothy Lucas of Botetourt County. The Reveres has one son, Ron, his wife, Sandy, and their daughter, Amanda Revere; one daughter, Debbie R. Thompson, her husband, Mark, and their children, Aaron and Elizabeth Thompson. Mr. Revere is retired from Sears and Mrs. Revere is retired from the nursing profession.
Shelor anniversary
Beverly and Lucille Shelor celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, April 5th, 1996. They were married on April 5th, 1946 in Roanoke, Va., where they are lifelong residents.
Mrs. and Mrs. Shelor have one daughter, Janet (Jan) S. Wooddy of Troutville, Va.
Mrs. Shelor, a homemaker, is the former Lucille Epperly. Mr. Shelor is retired from his own heating and air conditioning business. He served in several Pacific Naval battles during World War II, and served on one of the first American ships to enter Japan. Mrs. Shelor worked as Secretary-Treasurer in his business until retirement. They are members of Villa Heights Baptist Church. He belongs to Williamson Road Masonic Lodge #163 AF & AM, is the former Director of Kazim Temple Klown Unit, and is past President of Villa Heights Lions Club.
