A man with a pistol robbed a Northwest Roanoke fast food restaurant early Sunday, getting away with a bagful of cash, police said.
Police gave this account:
About 5:40 a.m., as Derwood Johnson was opening the Wendy's at 1612 Hershberger Road N.W., a man ran into the store. The man shouted "freeze," and forced Johnson to fill a bag with money and then fled.
Later Sunday, a Southwest Roanoke convenience store was robbed. About 10:45 p.m., a man walked into the Village Store at 322 Boulevard S.W., began filling out a Lotto card and asked a clerk for help. The man then handed the clerk a note that said he wanted $50 and also threatened to kill the clerk. No weapon was displayed.
The clerk gave the man $50. The man walked out of the store toward Patterson Avenue.
No arrest has been made in either case.
