A photograph on the cover of the April 4 New River Current showed a dog swimming in Pandapas Pond. This is against the law, according to the U.S. Forest Service. A person with an unleashed dog in the Forest Service recreation area can be cited for a petty offense, according to Brian Altizer, law enforcement officer with the Blacksburg Ranger District. A petty offense carries a minimum fine of $25 and a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $5,000 fine.
